Thanks, and I had an awesome pre-birthday (the day before my birthday I mean, I had my party that day), my actual birthday was just another plain day and a cake. :/

No problem And that's usually what happens, sadly
the party is great, and the actual birthday is boring

Oh, I read it already, but a second look won't do any harm
Maybe I'll find something new and helpful. I admire the way you put your life as an example and offer help for those who need it.

And another and another I like your style a lot, it makes me want to improve on my painting techniques. (if you check my gallery there will be a Work in Progress digital painting dragon,... er, the one with the sunset. Can you help me out?)

I see a lot of dragons . Which ones are you trying to work on?
I don't mind helping you out ^_^. I can see you trying to blend colors with your dragons. What specifically are you trying to improve on? Colors or line art?

This one in specific, since I'm getting started on REAL digital art, but can't seem to be able to do something like [link] that.
I don't mean I could do something that awesome right away, but I can't seem to get the concept to draw in the computer, since I think I'm almost good on paper. The thing is that I seem to get a cartoonish effect when I'm trying a realistic one.

Lol, that man is a master . He is amazingly wonderful. He has no school to worry about, but we do. Give yourself time and you will get better
.
Also, I am not an artist, I am a Mathematics and Science student. I'm trying to become an instructor and environmental awareness leader ^_^. I have no doubt of my artwork and I just DRAW. I just do it, and I can tell I still suck. But as long as I am learning then who cares?
Well, I have the same problem. That's why I do art requests. They are actually only for practice, not to be serious. Also, working with layers on the computer helps keep everything neat and in order, so you will need a good program, like adobe photoshop. You can't do stuff on paper that you can do on a computer.
I want to draw and paint, not work with the computer... but I can't afford the supplies, so I have no choice right now. On paper, my artwork is much different.
Also, I also have a tablet ---> [link] It helps A LOT.

Lol, it seems you are really modest you know? Yeah, I noticed it's the same problem, but I thought maybe you could help me out I have a tablet too, so that's not the problem, the problem is the cartoon effect I don't want to give bit it appears whatever I do *frustrated*. I also do have photoshop. what do you use? the paper thing is: I can't seem to draw as well on a tablet that on a paper.

HawClaw In reply to Icekler [2010-06-04 20:19:09 +0000 UTC]
Lol, no really, I suck XD.
Hmm... that's strange, because my tablet is very responsive. And yes, I have photoshop as well. Adobe Photoshop CS2, but they are all the same in basics.
I also have a problem with outlining the characters, it drives me nuts. But that's because I am a little lazy .
When I draw and do oil paintings, I have the same problem too. It's how you think that affects your artwork.
Just remember this: a line is how the eye divides lightness from darkness (light and shade), because in reality there are no lines! Your hand looks outlined, but that's only because of the background you have. And your fingers curve forward and away from you, so depending on your light source is how it looks.
Just study the basics and practice and much as you can. Don't watch super amazing artists or else you'll end up comparing yourself to them. I don't find that helpful at all, lol. Instead, I look at as many artists as I possible can.
Sometimes I picture in my head what I want. Sometimes I don't and just randomly draw until an image shows up. My mood will depend on my progress I suppose. But knowing is of course half the battle, so look at tutorials on DA. Also, take a chance! Do something that you know probably won't work, and you may even be completely surprised! Have you ever watch a very old movie that you once saw as a child, only NOW you understand what they were saying? It's a lot like that .
And I fav a lot of artwork too. I have Landscapes, Space art, friends artwork, funny artwork, you name it .
It could also be that you are trying to hard. Did you know I didn't draw anything for the past 4 years until now?
And take care of yourself. get long hours of sleep, healthy food, or your brain will never be charged and active.
