Have you heard of the Pulp Revolution. They talk about the same subjects you talk about, only focusing more on how the pulps compare to modern fantasy and science fiction instead of your focus on YA novels. Here are two good starting points.

I just want to say that I respect your words like, so much. I've been writing fan-fictions for almost four years now. I have a good amount of watchers for it, and I believe I'm getting much better at writing, but the thing is I never get criticism. Like, never. I don't know if that's like a fan-fiction thing or what. I always just wanted someone to tell me what I'm doing wrong with my writing or how to improve on something. On top of that, I've never read a lot of books or anything, so I'm not too aware of well-composed writing. (I'm a bit of a contradiction; wanting to be a writer, but never really reading books.)

Your devations really keep me cautious, however. I love the points you make in the devations I've read so far. I very much appreciate it, and hope to get even better with the help of your reviews and guides~! So, thank you!

I have a question about writing, mainly the style.

Should I like in first person or thrid person head hopping or full scale third person?

and then should I write in traditional past tense or more new present tense?

Hmm, that seems pretty subjective.
I'm sure there is unique advantage to be taken of each style. The best choice is the one which you feel you can make the best use of for your particular story. 

I hear head hopping is usually looked down on, but I personally like to use it for comic effect while focusing on the main character for the important parts of the story (so as not to make it feel awkward or cheap).

I always admired the style J. K. Rowling uses in Harry Potter, which I believe is called third person omniscient. 
It's like having a camera on the main character (including into their mind), so that we are duped into thinking their beliefs are always right when they aren't necessarily. This lends itself to good opportunities for narrative misdirection and plot twists. (Remember what we believed about Snape, Mad Eye, Scabbers).

It all depends what you're trying to accomplish, and like I said before, which style you can use to your advantage.
