RobindV In reply to Ninuturu [2012-12-27 15:30:21 +0000 UTC]

Ninuturu In reply to RobindV [2012-12-27 15:32:57 +0000 UTC]

RobindV In reply to Ninuturu [2012-12-27 18:22:43 +0000 UTC]

In
het wild kan dit natuurlijk niet

Ninuturu In reply to RobindV [2012-12-27 19:08:25 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! I'm going hunting today or tomorrow, would you like a squirrel pelt or skull? I might find a snake or opossum. maybe raccoon, ya never know in NC lol

I also have something called Nature Skarz, Nature Skarz is where i get a branch and carve a picture or name into the branch and add things like leaves, bead, fur, bones ETC.

I'd be very interested in a squirrel or opossum skull, if you live in the USA though I am not sure if the wolf bracelet will go through customs without any trouble

I've looked and it's okay. I feel bad for the wolf, but I would feel closer with my spirit animal

Hello! My friend recommended me to talk to you, as she said that you have had experience with raising pigeons before! My cat brought in an egg yesterday, which I presume to be a pigeon or dove egg, and currently I just candled the egg to see whether it is fertile and alive and it is! I think it is in the range of 7-10 days old as the chick is still quite small, about 2cm long I think. Im currently using a posable normal lamp, a straw nest/feathers and slightly moistening the egg every few hours, allowing it to evaporate before I next spray. I dont have an incubator, but my school does have a heat cupboard. Do you have any advice on any experiences you have had raising pigeons? I really don't want the guy to die

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RobindV In reply to rooklinqs [2012-08-04 23:00:49 +0000 UTC]

Hatching it without an incubator will be very hard since it needs an exact temperature and humidity, aswell as a very strict way of turning the egg around (the last both so it won't stick to the scale of the egg on the inside) if it's 10 days old you might have a chance but any younger will most likely not succeed

I'd say place it on a heating plate/stone/etc with a wet piece of cloth on it and measure the temperature with a thermometer. The ideal temperature should be around 38 celcius/311 Kelvin/100 Fahrenheit.

rooklinqs In reply to RobindV [2012-08-06 15:04:38 +0000 UTC]

I think it may be over 10 days old, the egg is currently turning grey (which I read online means that it will hatch soon(?))
Ill try and measure the temperature... and I have been keeping it atleast humid in my own way

Im just worried about how to feed it now I know you need a syringe and tubing, but Im not sure about the stuff to feed it, and how many times a day, because one website said every 45 minutes, another said 2-3 times a day

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RobindV In reply to rooklinqs [2012-08-06 15:12:48 +0000 UTC]

If you manage to hatch it that's already a huge milestone! it's very hard to do so by hand. The egg turning grey means either it will hatch soon or the chick has died and the blood starts to clog/turn darker inside.

What I feed my pigeon chicks when I have to handfeed them is: hardboiled eggs, crushed rusk/toast/hard bread to tiny crumbs and very small bird feed such as parakeet seeds from the petstore all mixed into a paste. Add water to make it a bit most so the chick will not choke on it when it sticks to the throat but also not too fluid because he chick could 'drown' when it reaches the wrong way.

The best way is to feed it with a tube or syringe, the parents sticks their beaks quite deep in the throat so you can do the same, the chick will not easily damage from it

rooklinqs In reply to RobindV [2012-08-06 16:12:08 +0000 UTC]

Ah...... then I think I may have a problem.... Im not sure but all I can see is a darkish mass, I can see that there are still veins with blood in around the egg, but Im not sure about the chick anymore :/ I will still keep the egg for a few more days, just to check....

Thanks for the information though Its been helpful

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RobindV In reply to rooklinqs [2012-08-06 16:52:53 +0000 UTC]

If the veins get more and more visible the egg is most likely decaying =\ but I would wait it out some days

rooklinqs In reply to RobindV [2012-08-06 16:54:04 +0000 UTC]

Okay Thanks for all the help though
I thought its chances were slim from day 1 anyway, since it was cracked when I got it :/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RobindV In reply to rooklinqs [2012-08-06 16:59:47 +0000 UTC]

Then there is probably something like this inside: [link] I opened this egg after I found a crack (a pigeon stood on it and cracked it) =\

Ah..... My mum wants me to open the egg to see how developed it was.... but I don't want to see anymore dead birds

This always seems to happen to me when I look after birds ||OTL

I do have a picture posted of what it looked like yesterday if you would like to look, although it isnt clear

Hello! I just wanted to comment on that neat taxidermy type stuff you have in your gallery. I also have a career in the animal world, though not cetaceans or pinnipeds in particular, though I did attend an externship in Mexico that dealt solely with marine mammal medicine. Keep up the good work!!

What are you looking for trade for one?
I am very interested.

RobindV In reply to Lychnobia [2012-07-26 09:54:08 +0000 UTC]

Nope I did not receive them yet

The front pelt of the harbor seal is
in the best condition, it is very thick
and soft. Also really vintage it's quite
old (was a museum piece)

The other is very short rough fur and
a piece is taken out to craft

I am not particulary looking for pieces
normally I go for foxes and such but these
seal pelts are quite dear to me

Lychnobia In reply to RobindV [2012-07-26 10:04:28 +0000 UTC]

Mh.
With which one would you part?

I don't think we have a lot marine mammal stuff.
We have some sperm whale skull fragments and one big bone - but those are christinas and I don't think she will let it go.

Do you just look for marine mammal stuff?

(if you can 'reserve' me one of the seals: I am going to scandinavia in september and I can look if I will find something related)

Do you have bigger photos and fullshots of the seals? :>

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RobindV In reply to Lychnobia [2012-07-26 10:07:13 +0000 UTC]

They are both very hard to part with for me but in my opnion the harbor seal piece is more appealing to you/other buyers. I am not just looking for marine mammal stuff but that has my liking while for other animal parts I am not looking for anything particular so it will be hard to pick a trade. Do you have something in mind to trade for the seal?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lychnobia In reply to RobindV [2012-07-26 13:02:47 +0000 UTC]

Mh...I do have some stuff. But I fear it will be small stuff.
Like rex-rabbit pelts, tails, feathers or bones.
I do have a gray fox for trade or a brushwolf tail.

I doubt you are interested?
