If you still need to know, when the rendered image is in its window, press F3. Then a saving window will come up in Blender (temporarily replacing your buttons window).

ummm I want to join. Blender is my fav opensource graphics app. (after giving gimp a fair shot for three months I got sick of it and went back to PS. Eagerly waiting for Krita and currently messing around in Ktoon).

finally got my linux box into shape (for the most part, still looking for a couple more upgrades), and am looking forward to start blending again soon. I'm currently getting the 2.36 version now.

Might try adjusting the "Xparts" and "Yparts" fields in the Render Settings, just below the Oversampling settings. Smaller numbers are larger parts, so they would use more memory at a time, so raise the numbers to use less memory over more time.

That almost makes TOO much sense... especially since I had used it before. *scratches head* Thanks
I'll try to catch up on the heavy renders that I had skipped over...

Another quick question: Is there any way (through like a plugin, or script, or command line, or some crazy option I havent found) to limit blender's CPU usage during a render? I was able to render a preview size of my latest scene by leaving my dad's desktop on overnight (and that was without focal blur T_T), but It'd prolly run faster on my laptop... unfortunately like I said before, the laptop is really prone to overheating, though were I able to limit it's CPU usage, I should be able to keep it cool enough to avoid crashing, in exchange for a longer render time....

yeah i like to know the answer too on this questions & also is there a option that blender can use more ram while rendering cause now it uses only 30 % of the availlable ram i have

Hahahaha, dang, I wish I had THAT problem. Its always delving quite deep into my virtual memory (paging file) to make up for what I dont have...

Can you direct me to any forums might offer any help on the aspects of materials. I tried the tutorials, but they're all too advanced for me. Thus far, I can make simple textures, but I have no clue as to how to make realistic looking textures.

send a me a note with any questions you have, and i will try and answer them - or ask any of the other blender users on the community... kazix seems to be pretty experienced with texturing
Just a pointer - proceedural textures (like the ones in blender) hardly ever give realistic results. To give a realistic finish, you need to either use a photograph or paint your own textures in a paint program eg gimp or photoshop and then apply it using an image map to your model... it takes a good amount of experience to be able to put together good quality textures - practice is very important.

Perhaps, but procedurals, (voronoi especially) are useful for adding realistic light-alpha effects to allready textured elements, for example, adding realistic moss, rust, or corrosion, you can map a light alpha splotched voronoi noise with a suiting colorband to offset color to give the desired effect, and also things like specularity, to make it look like its actually corroded. (light wont reflect well off rust, afterall)
Ive got a question though, do .blend files contain packed image textures? or do I have to copy the directory structure containing the image files to the computer I'm doing the rendering on? ...My laptop had held up until this latest project... but this scene's too bleedin complex for poor toshiryuu to handle. (It overheats rendering a preview T_T)

"Ive got a question though, do .blend files contain packed image textures?
Ok, I have a definitive answer: [blender 2.34] By default textures are not packed in the blender file [default on my system, at least]. However, you can choose: In the Texture Buttons [F6] window, after you have selected "texture type" Image, and after having loaded the image, take a look to the right of the "load image" button, directly under the file name. You should see a little present or package looking button, you can use this button to pack or un-pack the texture image.

If you have a lot of textures an easy way to do it is just, File > Pack Data

blender3d In reply to Turtle-Wrangler [2004-09-18 23:22:54 +0000 UTC]
LOL! I think a new some more RAM is in order!
On a more serious note, texture files are generally packed into the blend file... that is why the file size increases when you add an image map etc. From my own experience this is the case, and I think it is so with all versions of blender.
Just do a couple of trial renders, changing the base texture file's location on the second run and check if the results are the same... this is just to make sure that your blender is packing all the image files.

blender rocks, but as i cant get the plugin to export to povray to work, i cant use it as often as i would like.
cos in my opinion, yafray is slow, and its rendering quality, leaves much to be desired.
if anyone could helpfully tell me how the hell to install the pov-ray plugin, i would be most appreciative.
