im crap with batteries. i think i just lost another 4 in the last week *sighs* i havnt told my dad yet... he's going to go spare. i mean, i dont know how expensive rechargeable batteries are but i go through them like anything, and i've recently got back into doing film. i've gone through 4 rolls of film in 2 weeks...
about 2 years... you?

loganthomas In reply to ali-musette [2008-10-31 22:40:14 +0000 UTC]
hahah, i'm not very good with lens caps, i've lost all but one :S luckily they decided to invent uv filters otherwise i dont know what i'd do....
Film, really? thats pretty cool, hows that going?
i've been dying to start, only setback is that everything is soo expensive
Um, about 1.5 years

ali-musette In reply to loganthomas [2008-10-31 23:06:28 +0000 UTC]
i need pockets if i am to take a lens cap off... luckily i only have film SLRs with lens caps so i put my glasses wherever the lens cap is... view finders and glasses dont work so well i've figured. i love taking lens caps off and putting them back on again... probably drives everyone else insane, but ah well.
its good... im not really taking any inspiring shots yet. i have a roll of film that is solely Harley Davidsons i love it though... so far i've used a Pentax MX (
, my one true love. the most beautiful camera on earth imo) and a Minolta CLE (doesnt like)... i love the pentax, i call it the snappy chomp... i dunno, its the kind of camera that just feels so good when you press the shutter you take photos just to press the shutter... or perhaps that's just me
but its all good. i look right eccentric.. and people always get bored with me taking ages to focus and that... basically what i've established there is the most productive part of me doing film is im good at annoying people with it... hmmmm. i guess... thing is with me and film is i already had the cameras coz they're my dad's, and then there's the fact i have next to no time anymore because i did an extra subject, so i dont get out much, and then the times when there weather is good enough for me to want to bring a film camera i guess its not that bad.
and wow you're good... there's talent

nice, someday i'll start with film, but for now, i'm gonna stick to digital. do you do your own darkroom aswell?
Snappy Chomp? thats a pretty good name for the mx, good thinking...
haha i know exactly what you mean about the whole taking a picture to press the shutter, especially with the old film cameras it feels so cool... i remember when i was looking for a film camera, all the photographers i asked about it told me it was simply a waste of time to even try... i couldnt believe it
thats probably the main reason i havent started...
thanks, your photos are excellent! You've definitely got it!

ali-musette In reply to loganthomas [2008-11-01 17:06:17 +0000 UTC]
fair enough. digital's getting to a point where its overtaking film anyway now. what i really want to do is all those really old portraits... you know? there's something about them that you could take a photo of any ordinary person and they would transform into a model. there's hindsight for you though isnt it... i'd go for digital but i cant really afford it. kinda ironic considering you dont do film coz you cant afford it... the cameras are so expensive though. i dunno, i'll see where art takes me. if i do something involving photography at uni then i'll invest in one i think, although UCL say they provide cameras.... im thinking aloud as it were now...
and no... at one point the art dept at school was talking about getting dark room equipment but whether it'll happen i dont know. probably find they get stuff the year after i leave although so far i've had all the luck of things changing for my year so maybe i can live in hope
maybe if i drop some not-so-subtle hints
i thought it was a good name i name EVERYTHING. i feel cool with it
problem with that feeling though, is it ends up being quite an expensive feeling
its deffo not a waste of time though. its getting increasingly difficult to do it but if you like it then *shrugs* its annoying less and less companies are doing film now and everywhere expects you to be able to use an instant print machine... its not a waste of time though coz you can not recreate a film-a-like with a digital camera, no matter what software you have. it just isnt the same...
and thanks thanks for the fav & watch

it is quite ironic isn't it? film for me is the big issue constricting my use...
atm i'm looking to get a new digital camera body, because... well digital cameras just dont last like the hardy film ones..which is a shame....they just.. slow down, and alot of quality is lost :S
well... hopefully things will turn in your favor as they seem to be doing anyway... i've always wanted to do work in a darkroom, but.. there's pretty much no facility in Barbados for photography... its a shame, but most artists are stunted down here...
my views exactly on the whole shooting with film idea...
i've always found that film gives a very different look and feel to the pictures.. to me it's like learning electric guitar before acoustic.. its i don't know if you can relate to that but that's my take on it...

ali-musette In reply to loganthomas [2008-11-04 23:00:46 +0000 UTC]
thing is... i cant afford digital because the involves paying a lot of money out in one go. film involves paying out my parents' money in instalments (ie: for the roll of film)
i guess there's more things to go wrong in digital... but then there's also the fact that digital is always advancing so even though the body deteriorates you'd want to replace it soon anyway because technology advances that fast. with digital, i v. much doubt you're going to want to get the affects you got with early DSLRs, so it doesnt matter so much that they last. films is an era... that's why people go back to it, coz the images change aswell as improve... i dunno. i know what i mean in my head if that counts....
hm, well i know there's one guy in the year above me who's really into photography so maybe they'll push it for his sake. or maybe not. i read something about someone getting into doing dark room stuff. i cant remember what it was now but it basically said you can set it up anywhere really. you just have to be determined to get the equipment...
i couldnt say that because really i did learn digital and then film. i mean... not in SLR terms. i think film feels very complicated because you're not certain of what you're getting out... i thik digital slr's would be better in that sense because you learn quicker... but its the mystery which is kinda so beautiful about it. film captures history better than digital...
