I can always try to answers questions as they come along.
Real question is what kind of 3D art do you want to do? Creating the models or using them?
The internet is full of lots of good tutorials. The tools are just that, tools. Once you get the hang of them, the real fun begins.

Well.. that is a mix.
If you are into anime, you may want to check out DAZ Studio and or Poser. [link] may be a good place to start. Check out the Hiro and Aiko3 models at the site.

what software do you use? you make it look so easy!
π: 0 β©: 1
Lokai2000 In reply to max13124 [2006-11-29 02:32:56 +0000 UTC]
Easy..... no....
I use Poser for the modeling and camera work.
I use 3DSMax to model/modify objects in the scenes when needed.
Photoshop is used for postwork and textures.
Poseray is used to convert the Poser meshes over to Povray format.
Finally, Povray/MegaPov is used to render the scenes.

oh! and may i ask if your use poser 6 for your cartoon renders? im using 5 at the moment but im gonna get number 6 (with e-frontier's offer for a free upgrade to seven hehe) but just wondering if you were able to tell me the setting maybe, if not thats totally find i conpletely understand about an artist's secrets and all, just thought you never know till ya ask

Actually, I have no problem sharing secrets. I like the whole idea of empowering people to create bigger and better things.
I'll tackle this one first as it is the easier question to answer.
I used to do the cel rendering in Poser 6. I even wrote a tutorial on how to do it.
[link]
It is a two step process though.
Recently, I have figured out how to do cel renders using MegaPov. It is a free render engine that I do most of my work in. I have been playing with the idea of writing a tut for this, but the whole process is not something that is all that easy for somebody just starting into the 3D world. So I've been putting it off until I can figure out a simpler way.

I'm at work right now, so I don't have all the details.
DAZ has a nice collection of hair styles for Aiko 3. I can't remember the name of the package though.
There are a number of free hair styles over at the anime doll forums (including a really nice bel-dandy looking hair set). I'll have to look up the link once I get home. I "think" the benway mods are there as well. These are a collection of hair fit mods for the poser 4 hair styles.
MayaX's animedool kit also has a good collection of cartoon like options.
Mainly, I pull bits and pieces from all of the above. Sometimes, I end up modifying a hair style in 3DSMax. The "pointy" bangs used in the recent comic I did is a good example of this.
Also, sometimes a realistic hair can look cartoonish if you remove the transparency maps. MayaX's freebie Yuna Hair is a good example of this.

I loved your project comic. I looked through your gallery, and really love it.
If you would be willing to consider: An angel gon bad, and a demoness gone good. This could be a hallarious addition to your current angel and demon. two opposing odd-couples? Battling each other too! Woo hoo!
Anyway, consider it please, I think it would be SOO cute!
