Thank you for the compliment! The question is a bit tough to answer though.
For the greater part of all the tools I use, I am self taught. I like to play with things and a lot of my renders are me trying out something new.
That aside, there are many good tutorials at DAZ3D and renderosity.
A lot of people seem to think that you have to spend a lot of money buying costumes for the figures. However, a lot of my renders use materials that I have found for completely free on the internet.
(Although I have bought many things as well.
