hey! i love your group knife painting! i've been submitting a couple things there now and then. i've always really enjoyed my palette knives. i have lots that are very old and crappy and worn down, but i love them that way. they look lived in. lol! if we haven't already, we should associate my bizillion groups with your bizillion groups!

great, well i have 7 groups. give or take, lol! and most of them would be good for affilations, so i will send some requests! i like the group because i've always been into knife painting and i see other people using it here and there, but it didn't seem like there were that many works done that way, so it's cool to see what other people are doing with it. i also like that you have a place for photos of one's tools! that's an awesome idea. i'm going to have to take a photo!

and I would like to alert the members of "traditional art" groups. The subtitle of the book is "making art by hand in the 21st century"
I also discuss methods of selling paintings, the motivations of potential art patrons in buying paintings, making 'wall decor' and the marketplace for wall decor. Other topics include enlarging your personal creativity and controlling the cost of buying art materials.
Are you a administrator of several 'traditional art' groups. What would you suggest in communicating with the folks in those groups?
Could I supply you with information for a blog post?

I am an admin for 4 traditional art groups ( and ). I would be happy to post a blog article on some of these, where appropriate (maybe not the oil pastel group?, but this depends on the subject of your book). I suggest it might be more appropriate if you are a member of those groups and are contributing art...
Let me know what you propose. Probably along the lines of: One of our members has written a book which may be of interest to many of you. It might make it even more personal if you offer that members can write to you to ask questions about it. I'd be more likely to buy a book if it is by someone that I "know" even if at a pretty superficial level (I've been admiring your knife paintings, by the way!).

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm a member of "We love traditional art" and "Traditional art only", so it would a blog post would only be appropriate for those two groups.
I've been a painter for more than 50 years, taken classes from three art schools, etc., etc.
At the end of my (life) career, I decided to put together an analysis of many topics that I see bedevil young painters, such as:
* am I a painter even if I don't seem to sell any work?
* how does the flood of images on the Internet affect the economics of selling paintings?
* what are some typical (popular) ways of commodifying a painting?
* what does your art patron's self image have to do with his impulse to buy your painting?
* what are good and bad "conceptual envelopes" for your paintings?
* what are the hazards and economics of producing "wall decor"?
The book also includes some reflections of the advantages of working by hand versus using digital methods.
It also includes a discussion about controlling the cost of art materials. The example that I use in the book is my discovery of the high cost of acrylic paints and my determination to substitute latex house paint. Those knife paintings that you admire were done with latex house paint. My cost in doing one of those paintings is less than $2.
I've put all these thoughts together in a book that may help young painters, especially those who want to work with traditional methods like me, and who have been doing paintings for a long time like me, and who don't sell a lot of work like me.

Terry - I asked the Founder at Traditional-Art-Only, and unfortunately she says that the policy is not to do member specific advertisements... Sounds like you can buy advertising space for points!
I wouldn't worry, though. WLTA is much the larger group.
Have you asked #Traditional-Media? They are the only traditional art group bigger than WLTA, although they are somewhat more elitist...
