Do you sign cards? I love your work on the emissaries and, once I collect a foil set, was wondering if I could talk you into signing them?

Congratulations, once more.

now, it's because you're doing many and many of them!
hope they're paying you the price you deserve.

I've noticed that you do a lot of MTG illustrations, and that Magic was the inspiration for the push toward card illustration.
I think this is very inspiring, as I currently have the same dreams... How did you go about learning your technique?

samburley In reply to Harrower [2013-01-28 08:19:13 +0000 UTC]
The inspiration for not just card illustration, but art in general
I dabbled in a lot of other types of art (which certainly influenced my technique), but this is what I loved, so I naturally came back to it. So that's what I'd recommend - pursue your interests, and don't lock yourself into anything. Improving your technique is all about time and experience. Keep at it, and keep pushing yourself, and eventually it'll come.

Huge fan, realizing I've been seeing your work pop up for a while now. Any chance you would offer a video of your process for, say, your next study? I'm just an amateur, digital painter by hobby and have trouble with creating atmosphere and perspective. I would hazard that it stems from my inexperience with photoshop and the process of how to begin building up a scene and laying down colour. Bold but precise brushstrokes scare me, and I feel like everything I do either ends up muddy and blurry (too much blending/transparency and not enough confidence to leave a brushstroke 'sharp').
I'd absolutely love to see your workflow! Keep it up, you're a true inspiration.

Thanks. I'd actually recommend you try working traditionally more if you're finding your biggest hurdles to be drafting a scene and making bold brushstrokes. Photoshop can help with color and atmosphere, but for better or worse, it offers infinite choices when you're working and makes it difficult to make a decision. Which doesn't exactly build confidence
Keep an eye out, and maybe I'll post a video eventually. I had one up before, but the quality was really poor and I too it down.
