Any chance you're a model horse collector? I saw your post in ~rewston 's journal, and thought I should ask! We might be able to pick up a conversation.

Yup, I do showing occasionally. Collect some breyers but mostly stones. What about you?

I show when I get the chance. The only times I've done it has been incredibly fun! But I collect mostly Breyers, since Stones are out my price range. I do pick up the occassional resin, when I get the chance. ;D

lol, its the resins that are too pricey for me. I've been eying Sarah Roses Oberon and Mini Nahar for a long time though. Of course the expensive paint jobs only make it more of a fantasy to get one.
I think Stone does some really nice models, and I've been getting tired of Breyer the last few years. Since Breyer moved nearly all production to China, the models really do all look the same now instead of fun and noticeable hand painted variations. I no longer find it fun to pick out show models when theres no difference between them :-P All the new stablemate molds look too much like cartoons for me to enjoy.
The fact that Stone started making a lot of new molds the last few years also steered me more in that direction.. and knowing the Stones from shows and comparing their great customer service to the experiences I've had with Breyer XD

I know! There are quite a few I would love to own, but none of them I can really force myself to fork out the money for, even though in some cases I can afford it.
I've never known Breyer before they moved to China. I've been collecting for only about four years, but I would have loved to see those hand painted variations. But I was always under the impression that Stone was in China too? I mostly pick out the models with the differences in quality/condition, ie: scratches, overspray, glue runs, etc. Yeah, those SM molds are funky all around. The only two I like are the G3 Belgian and the G3 Highland Pony. The others can basically be thrown out the window, for all I care. The old HR mold SM models are just adorable!
But I have heard a few things about Stone's customer service that I haven't been to please with, either. All in all, I'm steering away from OF models, and hopefully moving more towards the resins... someday. xD

Part of my problem with resins is that I'm not sure how fragile they really are... I've never dared ask someone if I could pick theirs up, so I really have no idea XD I hope they are sturdier than porcelains and chinas.
Stone has the bodies cast in China, then they're all hand customized and painted in Shipshewana, Indiana. They're very open for factory tours if you're ever in the area, its really neat to see
I've been collecting since I was 7, and it was easy to see the switch over to China when comparing models at the toy stores, suddenly they all looked the same and you had to search hard for color variations >.< Every was used to be obviously different in the shading, and now its very hard to find variations like appys that missed getting their spots. And right then is when I stopped buying Breyers, lol. Maybe I do get one a year. And I always enter the connoisseur drawings, but they just keep raising the price on those @.@
I think the only problem with Stones customer service is they forget things sometimes, it seems like a large business to run with so few people. But they are easy to get a hold of unlike Breyer.
Thats really cool you collect the weird condition ones! I don't really have to room to collect more than my showing models. I saw some really funky old bloated and warped models on MH$P several months ago, I thought it would be kind of a neat idea to collect those ones.
Do you collect any customs? I've recently gotten rid of the few I had so as to stick with just OF models.

Nope, I don't collect customs.
