Hm I don't know about the goth scene in other countries, so i can't compare it. I just can say that there are two big gothic-related festivals in Germany, which are quite well-known. I'm more into the Japan-related scene.

There's a bigger following i think/more festivals, more shops - there just seems be a more closely-knit, bigger goth community in germany than in England (which is admittedly waaay smaller than germany) Hey we do have Whitby Goth weekend! yay for britain

Yeah i really love acting - but drama school is impossible to get into and i've been told by my really lovely drama teacher that I've got a LONG way to go before I have a hope in hell of getting in, so i'm not feeling that positive

For me tho, it's my life ^^ it makes me happy, stops me from going crazy, lets me de-stress from my life. Sometimes it's nice to be someone else for a while, especially when that person is a bizarre, funny character.

That sounds like fun. Presumably something in the alternative world? (sorry to stereotype ^^) possibly relating to Japan?

SO DELISH! Miso noodle soup is my favorite by FAR. Sushi I like too (just discovered when i went to Russia - they have an obsession with it and I realized i HAD to try it too ^^) I was originally anti-sushi cos the concept is odd (who can blame me?) but it's actually quite tasty in a wierd raw-fish, cold-rice ball way. And so neat and cute to look at! (and it's tasty unlike so many health foods like grilled fish which make you go bluegh T_T xD)

ME? Not knowing Emilie Autumn? That's the funniest thing I've ever heard xDDDD Because I'm more than obsessed with her *just spent all money on The Asylum book* she's my number one hero, more than any cross-dressing Japanese guy ♥

Well, Im also interested in general goth culture, like fashion, music and dark & gloomy stuff, but I'm not part of the scene or something like that.
I was in England two times (nicest place I've ever visited, want to go there again ♥) . And I think Canterbury had lots of dark/alternative fashion shops. But maybe that's because things like that fit very well with the medieval city and the beautiful cathedral. When I'll visit London next time, I plan to go shopping in Camden! YAYYY!

The journalism stiff relating to something alternative/Japan? Yeah, maybe. I know, it's very stereotype. There was a TV report on German lolitas and a great number of them said, that they were doing Japanese studies at university... ;D

Ah, you went to Russia? I speak Russian fluently as my family is originally from Ukraine, where Russian is the main language (at least in the city where my parents come from). We're planning to visit Russia one day, St.Petersburg where some of our relatives live.

Why not? I don't know what I am I'm addicted to lace and all things cutesy and black but i'd always be pretty content wearing sweet lolita like Baby the stars shine bright or sweet angelic pretty -i think that makes me a pretty odd goth. I also like emo clothes, gothic lolita, cyber-goth (even florals -i'm pretty odd xD) - my style is very mixed and undecided ^_^ and I quite like not being a proper stereotype. (plus i'm not that into goth music apart from a couple of bands like EA or the birthday massacre which most argue is more important than love of the clothes.)

Aww thanks from all us british people. I have not been to Canterbury in a long time (last time I was like 7 and i'm sure I didnt' visit any goth shops - i didn't even know what a goth was until like two three years ago. *blushes bright red* It's wonderful, but dead expensive. The take-out food is delicious, you have indian, morracan, chinese, japanese, african pizza, the works (although i've never had sushi from there.) Plus awesome fudge and cupcakes, (and organic brownies.) There's an antique stall and masks ....it's huge, you could stay there for days and not see everything.....^^ (well almost xD)

For a holiday. St Petersberg and Moscow. The churches were really beautiful and I didn't learn one single word of russian. It's definitely worth the visit. Strange that you can speak Russian yet you've never needed to use it.

well, maybe you could say that I'm part of the Lolita scene, as I dress quite often in Lolita or something inspired and I'm obsessed with that, what you call a 'loli lifestyle'. But more Gothic Lolita or something Punk-ish than Sweet. But today I decided to take part in an exchange program of our school, which means that I'll visit France in November, a day trip to Paris which means a visit of Baby's shop there ;D
Oh, The Birthday Massacre is awesome! one of my fav bands *_* I actually listen to a lot of 'goth' ore goth-related music... xDD but also to a lot of other things^^

antique stall and masks sounds great! I love antique things and masks, unfortunately we don't have many antique things at home, but I'm planning to re-decorate my room with lots of old stuff!

actually it still can be useful sometimes, for example when yo've got a good friend who also speaks Russian and can talk in school and nobody understands you ;D

Eventually I will go to a concert where EA herself will sign my t-shirt/cd (i've already been but she wasn't signing but I did get kissed on the cheek by Aprella! I'm actually a huge fan of Regina Spektor & Katy Perry & many others, which probably gives me goth demerit points lols xD - this is why I don't really consider myself anything- i'm way too much of a bastardised mix. All other groups will reject me T_T

I'd love to be a 'proper' gothic lolita (the stuff I own is like cheap, gothy knock-offs from camden - you know the 'goth' version of gothic lolita?) live in Japan, listen to the music, where all the expensive clothes....maybe in another life T_T

Yeah it is pretty damn cool. There's in fact a whole section and lots of little shops dedicated to: old furniture, records, suitcases, letters, postcard, photos, maps, newspapers, teapots, clothes, keys - its all wierd and wonderful down there. It's in fact my favourite bit which is a bit wierd I guess because its known for being an 'old persons' haunt >o< i'm just mature for my age xD lols

Because I love many different things, for example Symphonic Metal (NIGHTWISH! ♥ Versailles & many others...), Steampunk-ish music (Abney Park etc), Dark Cabaret, everything classical-influenced, 'mainstream' rock and a bit Indie, a bit Medieval music (Schandmaul), Electro/Synth stuff (Ayria, GPKISM), 'gothy' music (Stillste Stund, Samsas Traum, Switchblade Symphony) - and strange hybrids of that~

Yeah, I know thsi goth version of Lolita. But I think with a lot of creativity you can make great & cheap offbrand outfits!
I also don't own a single brand piece (besides a pair of bloomers), but I try to buy lolia-able clothes at H&M etc.

I HAVE TO GO THERE! tea pots & keys, yay!!! *_*

I didn't really say anything to Apprella! It was my friends who talked to her (Willow gave her a vegan cupcake she'd baked & Ivory got her to sign her shirt in eyeliner) whilst I stood gibbering at her like an idiot - she probably thought I was a lovestruck fan bt (even tho she is gorgeous ) i'm naturally shy & get nervous around NORMAL people - coming face to face with one of your heroes is kinda terrifying as you know >o<

My favourite song is deffo 'girl anachronism' - i like the mix of classical music/rock/gothy hints - i can't name their music its hard to label - its the first Dresden Doll's song I heard.

I love her outfits v. much -so adorable - especially in the video 'Waking up in vegas' - i love her songs in the right mood bt they can get kind of repetitive as is typical of pop T_T - which is annoying (with pop i hate that a song you love soon becomes you most hated song - well in my case - insanity again xD)

I like nightwish! - i've heard Switchblade symphony & i liked it bt I don't really listen to it much (nightwish neither) - dunno why >o<

Oh Hannah Fury? she's good - her voice is v. creepy & beautiful & i love her lyrics.

You can - i actually wear doc martins with emo-ish t-shirts & lolita-goth-punk style skirts which is fun bt I'd love to look like a REAL lolita. I'm bad at sewing & style! bt I'd like to be better ^_^ - it's more creative that way then just buying lots of stuff I think. You know you can get cheap lolita from closet child? (you just need to have no boobs & a 25 inch waist xD) -um i've never really noticed that bt it doesn't look so good - stuff I can get from camden - a skirt for 30 quid, a dress for 80 quid - its deffo more expensive than H&M - bt not too much more - so save up!

Some days ago I watched some of EAs tour videos, which reminded me of the show and made me half wonderful and half terrible, because I want to go there again~ my muffin friends and me, we're already planning what we will wear for the next show XDD
It's funny, because there are two other PRs in my school, best friends and one of them is a huge VeVa muffin and the other one admires Maggie, so they're always having an argument about 'who is the best"?
Well, I like both :3
And maybe I want to do a cosplay of Maggie, someday.

Yeah, I know this feeling... two years ago, i met the mangaka Arina Tanemura, who was my idol at that time (a bit like EA today~) and I nearly DIED! So I know how people, who meet EA feel. >.>

My favurite song is also 'Girl Anachronism'. First I found it a bit strange, but now I just love it! The crazy piano playing is awesome ^o^

... and I just started listening to Lady Gaga O_o
I never cared much about her, but her acoustic versions are amazing! And she's a Dresden Dolls fan, btw xD

Hannah Fury is nice, but I don't listen to hear much, only when I'm in a very dreamy and melancholic mood. Her songs sound like wondeful lullabies <3

That's exactyl the style I usually wear! (but engineer boots or chucks instead of Docs). I'm also bad at sewing, but I'm glad my granny can sew. She made a wondeful skirt for me, which looks a bit like Mana-sama's designs for his label *_*

Tim burton film - it was a mixed bag for me it looked beautiful bt I thought the plot was a let-down & alice actress was terrible. But Johnny Depp was AMAZING as the mad-hatter. But why why didn't they kiss!

They are both awesome, but I think VeVe has my vote - i truth getting to meet/make-out with/have an orgy with (joke *smile*) would be fantastic with either!

Never heard of her but I envy you for meeting your idol! Watching the crumpets on youtube to then go on to MEET one is like bummsdjfsafd - you're too pretty to be real, how can you be real! It was wierd - she smelt really good (despite the sweaty capering on stage!) She was too pretty - it wasn't fair! >O<

I loved it the moment I heard it. the drums and the piano - it just clicked all the right buttons and I was dancing along like yeah! its so crazy & fun. ^^

Argh no! um i dunno how I feel about her - i mean i'm all for indiviudlism and that but I don't really like her songs or her voice. Although I do like 'telephone music video' with beyonce -that makes me lols xD (yay for Dresden Dolls!)

Yeah, I think it's quite creepy for a children's book. And weird... but that's definetly not a bad thing

I just fear, that my dancing and acting skills are very poor... I just could be a human Suffer or something like that. I'm alway playing the accessory, always a doll.

I would <3 to be a crumpet, - I can act but I don't have the figure of a crumpet (i'm not fat just not tiny! -despite all the cupcakes they eat!) But I can't really dance either. But remember not all the crumpets dance - do they? They all have different skills & personalities - EA chooses them because they're individuals, not just because she wants them in her show.
That would be so cool! Just sitting in the corner looking scary - & getting to make out with EA! I would love to be in that group! (I have a friend who seriously aspires/hopes to be a crumpet but its one of those things where ironically i think EA is more likely to choose you if they don't know about her/aspire to be a crumpet -despite loving her fans. <3)

I love love love it! When I got it, I screamed and acted like a lunatic XDDDD The book is wonderful and it also would be so, if it wasn't by EA, I really like the writing style. But --- ehmagawd EA ---- , the book is signed and includes looots of wondeful pictures *o*
I loved the gallery with the leeches and the ads for corsets and leeches. But it made me think a lot about the attitude towards people with mental illnesses and our health system....
I'm not ready yet, just read the Cutting Diary (which was really touching ans shocking, but I read it before going to sleep - a great mistake).
I'm writing a review on it (in English) and I think I will put it on my journal here, when I'm finished with it.

One question about TOC... does she talk about the meaning of 306 there? because I heart that it's based on the story of "l'Inconnue de la Seine" 8do you know this story?), and it reminded me a lot of the scene with Anne in the book. The rescue doll is also called 'Annie'. And Wikipedia (yeeeeees, reliable source ) says: over the space of 6 years a total of 306 bodies were retrieved the highest number in one day being 16. about the Seine.

Have you seen the 'Born Again' video by Die Warzau? I guess you have^^ *gg*

OHMIGOD YOUR LIFE IS NOT COMPLETE YET! I love the book! I didn't scream actually but I was v. happy - it came in like a sack - like pirate's booty - it was v. wierd.


I know!We have lots of stigma towards them, people are just locked up & thrown together & drugged up - just like EA said.

That was so sad the diary, & v. revealing - EA had occasionally hinted at that stuff but somehow I never envisiged her as a self-harmer.

Oh cool - I like that! My major complaint is that I felt there wasn't enough - EA real-life asyslum vs. Emilie in victorian asylum ratio = it was too much story not enough real-life - I found it frustrating - even tho. the story was albeit a v. original, quirky & enterntaing one - i was desperate to know more about EA's time in the asylum. (prob v. repetiticious/secret - which is why she didn't talk about it as much.)

Sounds bad but I don't remember - i'm not sure. But as far as I can tell she didn't talk abou that. My friend Willow (fellow muffin ^^) informed me of a story where a french girl was drowned/suicide & apparently she was so beautiful her death-mask was sold - 306 copies in 6 years...

No i have not actually, but I will! It has EA in it? *_*

I unfortunately can, people don't like people who have mental illnesses -so much easier to lock them away & throw away the key. Yeah I preffered it to the victorian stories which although good were not brilliantly original, - her real-life story is way better than any fatansy.

I've also been to France for a week, with my school...
it was great although I felt quite homesick the first two days because we stayed at a boarding school at the countryside and I couldn't get used to it at first.. But then went to Versailles whre I fell in love with the castle ♥_♥ and of course Paris, which is such an beautiful city!

Well, I've read another book about a Victorian Asylum, it's called 'Wildthorn' and compared to it, the Asylum book was very original, because Wildthorn was just packed full with stereotypes... but there could be worse books.

Me too, because the same songs (great as they are) can get a bit boring...
