Update: Get rid of the install manager!!!
With the arrival of DS 4.9, at this point Daz is consolidating "their content" in an outright hostile move to encrypt it all. Older content which openly states it shares content compatibility with poser would probably still work, but everything else will only be compatible with DS 4.9. This is significant because now they're trying to force a turnover to the new Daz Connect since their old service has been deprecated and discontinued. There is still manual install. However if you agree to the new service, this option would disappear. When you do, the content files shall be physically located in the way they have set up. For DS users they can customize access however they wish via making a custom directory categorization. For everyone else, an unalterable (mostly) set location for content is a clear sign Zygote inc. is flipping the bird at Poser users as well as others--though bryce and carrara will obviously get some kind of update to make their own "category" interface (I think).
I bought some little content and afterward used the install manager to prune my content of dead weight and noticed they tried to sneak the update in. I refused it. The next time I opened it, they had applied D.S 4.9 anyway (which won't work right without Connect) even though my current version was 4.8 (it will prompt users to switch). I tossed it out and that both erased and uninstalled my DS 4.8--so now I've got nothing.
The install manager now does its periodic "login error" which means they want me to agree to their new shit on my DS acct.
I can still buy and manually download content, but my significant investments outside V4 and family are LOST unless I sign over.
If you can get a clean copy of DS 4.7, that actually runs faster than 4.8 even though the latter has better capabilities and all that.
This is bullshit. Basically punishing you for using other software.

Oh wow! This just gets worse and worse. I can't see them making any friends doing what they're doing. And they wonder why people hack. Not being able to alter the content files would suck because we all know they don't know shit about how to properly categorize things. Everything always a jumbled mess and needs to be put in a proper order. And if they think people will just switch over to daz for that convenience I hope they're wrong. The more I hear the more it validates my desire never to even try Daz.

Few changes now. Complaints have since gathered. Pandora's box is opened, they figure no use in encrypting older content; a sort of "this point onward" thing now. I guess V7/genesis 3 and their recent breakthrough in compatability in unreal engine along with mocap have made them highly sought after so they are protecting that. Someone among their staff opened up Morph3d as a separate thing dedicated to animation and indie game makers. Also if Zygote inc. goes tits up they have a poison pill to decrypt the products.
I'm still not 100% sure on content compatibility issues now with the release of 4.9... I'll let you know soon enough. I cannot use the 4.8 copy I have on this 32 bit machine. We will see if Genesis 2 products I own will still work in 4.8 or not.
If you visit affect3d, someone has posted a link to download 4.8 (64 bit only) because I guess Poser 11's morph transfer tool still doesn't do jack shit for V4. I'm not sure anymore if transferring your morphs is possible cuz I just remembered something: Balana hair is one I'm desirous of using which isn't supported or recommended for Daz. Redwolf or someone at renderosity told me the the base model of the hair will load, but morph dials for the hair are specifically coded to Poser so Daz wouldn't be able to "talk" to it. So did you make your morphs in Poser or an external program?
I read the FAQs. My fault for not being vigilant enough about the install manager. What was *supposed* to happen was that users were to make a separate directory between Daz4.8 and 4.9--not the auto-overwrite that crept its way up on me. Guess I should have read the forums. Their service has changed significantly. So two directories is necessary to transfer your existing content over. Any changes you make in 4.8 will carry over to 4.9, but not the other way which means it's parented to the older. So my bad, but I'm still a bit agitated. Daz 4.9 meanwhile does not require Daz connect, thankfully.
As it is, though, I'm dead in the water. This old machine's OS (vista) isn't supported anymore. So I'm not sure what to do in the meantime as I build up to finish off my new computer. If I keep using chrome (which crashes it due to the earlier worm attack having come through chrome), that's a timebomb. I don't trust explorer for shit. And Firefox has XPCOM error which is only cleared by completely uninstalling and reinstalling after doing some other step to clear out program data but I'm afraid I will lose my 7 years of user data if I do that...Future plans for this old box is a linux machine.

Eh, bad news. You got me curious enough to look up whether or not morphs can transfer over to G2F from V4, they can't. Not automatically anyways. Says nothing about doing this in Poser either so I'm going to say we can safely assume not. However, feel free to keep trying until you have exhausted all options.
There might be an indirect way to do it: For Genesis 1 however, yes you can transfer morphs from V4 if you have the Gen X tool. From there you can maybe duplicate them as custom Genesis 1 morphs and THEN use a gen X add-on to transfer Genesis 1 morphs to Genesis 2 female. Tedious, treacherous, and sounds fraught with potential for things to go wrong. But on the bright side it may be possible to do without having to completely redo the morphs for a different generation figure.
Though I am curious, have you ever imported objects or stuff into poser? Were you unhappy with the result?

Yeah trying to do anything like that without installing daz to initially do some kind of conversion seems not do-able. I have imported stuff into poser before and so far have been happy with the results. Talons suit of armor I build in 3dsmax, exported to poser so I could attach it to her for posing, the export everything back to Max. It has been successful in the past.
Fortunately V4 is still versatile enough that transferring Talon isn't a huge deal for me, I can live with V4 for awhile longer. I remember what it was like to go from V3 to V4, took me forever to get the face right, and I would rather have a severe stomach flu than go through that again.

Measure metrics might save trouble of eyeballing, but I'm not sure how well it works for generation 4 figures. HeadShop 9 seems like a pretty nice tool so far. Not sure if it'll recognize non photographs as pictures but it'd be interesting to try and see if that'd work.

I got it. I don't get paid too much at a time but since it was on my to-get tools list, and it was on sale, why not?
Every so often it goes on sale and it can be had for $40, and sometimes $30 in the fast grab. The window of opportunity on the latter tends to be small. Some items are there for days, others only get 24hrs, more valuable stuff 12hrs or even 6hrs.
Fast Grab for generation 4 has been utterly ridiculous (in a good way) for bundles because the prices have fallen in recent years. At least for grabbing the fundamental content anyway. Then there's sales of upwards to 80-85% off.

I can't see why it wouldn't work, though. If it operates independently and both Poser and Daz are runtime, then it should work. No interface problems: you just upload Genesis 2 figures or objects.

Well, it says it's a plugin for daz, BUT here's the thing: It has its own application icon. To me this implies it's similar to V4 FaceMagic which was a poser plugin but it operates on its own and will work with Daz--I don't have a Poser yet.
So this *might* work alongside Poser seeing as how it's touted to export to other programs with the export .obj function.
To make HS work, I'm downloading the .net framework I didn't know I was missing from my registry...so I'm going to have to shut down my browser session. Let's see if I can't get it working on this old machine...

Yeah it's about done. I've got about 35 pages done so far which is more than I was shooting for but I needed them for the visual as well as the plot driven story I was going for. So a few more pages to go, 2 scenes actually which I should be able to do in hopefully 4 or 5 pages.
