Ah, Renji. I was making observations, introductions don't bode well when gathering data that needs to be unbiased. You of all people should know that. Sanada-kun however, did quite well drinking my juice. Your vice captain has rather surprising fortitude (and what seems to be the ability to glean surface thoughts from others, as I never once said he was a penguin). Needless to say, I gathered some good data while I was at Rikkai.
In addition, I am doing as well as can be expected. How about you? It has been far too long since we spent time together. I realise that it's been far too long between anything for you and I ..and this might be out of line, so if our relationship has indeed shifted beyond being friends to mere acquaintances, please inform me.. but we should get together for a movie night or other recreational activity. I just happen to miss your company.

One could see regarding introductions as unnecessary as rude, but I suppose in your case no introduction is really necessary.
Seeing as we're both well, healthy, and speaking coherent sentences to each other, I'll put off the deliberation on whether we are friends ore simply acquaintances in favor of agreeing that spending a bit more time together could be beneficial.
Although (forgive me if I'm mistaken) - you sound a bit nervous. I hope I haven't done anything to make you feel that way.

You of all people should know that tact was never my strong point, Renji. I was never one for words and I daresay I never will be. That was always your forte as opposed to mine. I never particularly had to worry when you were around. You would always say enough for the both of us and I would avoid awkward social situations like the ones I so often find myself in.
I believe I am nervous, Renji, and rightly so. It has been a number of yeas and you know I have counted. Perhaps it is the fact I was never all that good at letting go of things, nor expressing myself to my full potential. Perhaps I was nervous in the face of rejection when I still consider you to be my best friend even despite the tension and the distance that has occurred between us. There are many factors and illogical paramaters, Renji, I doubt I need to try and define them all for you.
However in light of your decision to not give me a definite answer (as I expected you wouldn't), I concur that we should take our situation as it is and I believe the term would be 'run with it'.
Did you have any event in particular to which you would like a companion?

You sound so sentimental about your own admitted awkwardness, Sadaharu, it's almost sweet. Then again you seem to be nostalgic and sentimental about most things we used to share, and perhaps still do?
I'm certain, for example, that I would still be able to smooth things over for you in social situations were we both together. And in response to that and your question of attending some sort of event together, I would consider it a fairly good estimate that such an outing would be enjoyable - mutually entertaining if nothing else.
Though to be more frank, I don't have a specific event in mind, this is all hypothetical, with the only required factor being that you and I attend it together.

I am sentimental about very few things in my life, Renji. At least let me have you to feel such things about. To punctuate the fact: your photograph still sits on my desk and I believe that some nights, when I am not buried under work and my fingers have somehow stopped typing the way they should, you merely keep me company. Or at least, the memory of you does. It is childish in all aspects, I realise this, but that does not make the fact that it happens any less real. Nor would I do it the injustice of denial.
In addition, since we have both agreed upon a hypothetical outing as a plausible activity, why don't we simply find an event that would be mutually gratifying and simply attend?
There happens to be a science fiction double feature showing later this week or there is the new exhibits at the museum?
