hehe. I gave you a llama, you thanked me, I told you to feed it and take it for walks, and you said something like "Take what for walks?" And so, I replied, "the llama",and that brings us up to now.

Oh. I will. People would be quite uhh, "scared" when they see a llama in Toronto. Or they will be like "what"?

I lived in Toronto for about a year, when I was... 9? (I moved a lot.. a year was an average stay in one place) Shucks, I saw a dozen llamas every day, and on the way to school, I had to push though obs of them, until I got my own to ride to school, but I had to stop like twice a day to clean up the..

Ok, I'll shut up now.

Really? Or are you just kidding. I can't tell. I have never seen one in the streets or in a store before. People would be confused. I would be as well unless I am walking the llama you donated to me.

hehe, just kidding about the llamas. I saw one in early june though... just one... at a petting zoo kinda thing. I'm not entirely sure why thye became popular in the last.. 5 years? Maybe little kids like em as much as a pony, and they're easier to upkeep? I dunno.

Maybe people just love the letter L.

They spit at people. Aggressive creatures. Well the llama you gave me is pretty calm. He doesn't spit at little kids in the library.

Thanks.. I haven't actually done a 'real' picture other than my book covers and a joke pic since before my daughter was born... so, 3 years and counting. Heh.. When I became a daddy, I had to prioritize my hobbies. Art lost, writing won. (3rd book coming by oct!)

How do you find the drive to write? What inspires you? I'm an aspiring author, and sometimes even though I have love and hope for the story I'm writing, I run out of steam and leave it alone for a while, but it's always on my mind.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

obsidianzero In reply to Tuume [2010-05-01 23:43:23 +0000 UTC]

It can be tricky to find time, especially as I'm the 'stay at home dad' of a toddler, but a big part of it is putting other things on a much lower priority. Kiddo comes first of course, then writing, then everything else.

When you don't feel like you have THAT SPARK whaen you happen to have the time, push fowrard anyway. Momentum can build... (especially with a red bull, heh)

The first bit you write might be crap, but that's what editing is for. A solid outline, (but not restrictive!!) is a big help... a 'checkpoint' in the story make a good beacon to head for... but don't be afraind to take your time getting there, or even discover a new 'checkpoint' if it doesn't mess things up too bad for the future.

LifeHack looks awesome. is it a graphic novel or just a novel? not sure where the art fits in. i want to try drawing regan though. could be fun when i'm not working on my comic.

obsidianzero In reply to BobSmeets [2010-03-04 07:22:40 +0000 UTC]

I've toyed with the idea of a graphic novel, but I honestly don't think the story would translate well- especially to MY art style.

The art actually started first. Up until late 2001/early 2002, my art was all 'random girl and situation'. I came to the realization that I was bored with my art, and took steps to take more time with detail, and ended up falling for the 2 'random' characters that resulted.

For the first time, a couple gals made their way back into my art for a 2nd, 3rd, 800th picture. I write little descriptions for many of the pics, that got more and more elaborate. well frig, a story was forming...

I tried to congeal it all into a short story, chasing a couple steps behind the art, and I found I was really loving writing for Regan and Alisia. The art.. began to slow... and a sequel short story was written.

A 3rd, a 4th, and the art had slowed to a crawl, and I realized I had the building blocks for a full novel... which was a shock. All the years of doing little short stories, the idea of a novel seemed impossible.. and now I'm writing #3.

I put the movie rights up for sale on ebay for a million bucks, hoping for joss wheadon. Strangely, no one bought them. The offer was up for a whole week! (Yes I actually put that on ebay, and no, I didn't expect to sell, hehe)

At any rate, You probably saw my 'free ebook' thing in my journal.. by all means, give em a go, and spread the word.

BobSmeets In reply to obsidianzero [2010-03-04 07:34:53 +0000 UTC]

so it's like a slow pendalum with faint trails coming from the ends (that's the only way i can describe how i see your process). i dig it. i can see this book being a movie. keep going for that. if you believe it will be one that it will. i'm making a graphic novel called Weirdsdale. it's gonna be a movie too.

i think i've seen your name before btw. do you hang out at ten ton studios or digital webbing? i've seen you somewhere.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

obsidianzero In reply to BobSmeets [2010-03-04 07:40:59 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I have no huge hopes for a movie, hehe. But no, I don't know those sites.. the only other place that I'm still "Obsidian Zero" is here and gamefaqs message boards.

I keep the old name here and at GF simply because I couldn't just rename them, and the accounts had enough 'seniority' that I didn't want to abandon them. Pretty much everywhere else, I'm known as the shortened form, "Ozero".

Then I find out "Ozero" is a word in russian. With great fear that I had just named myself after an ape's left net, I went and looked it up... it means 'lake'. Yeah, I can live with that.
