He's a character from a Visual Novel BL-game called DRAMAtical Murder, or DMMd for short.
He's generally seen as the 'ensemble darkhorse' of the series (a character that's meant to mostly be a side-character--one who doesn't receive a lot of focus and was possibly intended to appear for only a short time--but somehow ends up gaining popularity which oftentimes rivals the protagonists).
Choosing his route, in this case, more or less averts the 'not-much-focus' issue.
True to form, he's a pretty big fan favorite; this is usually attributed to his unique design, his doesn't-give-a-crap-about-anything attitude (at first),
and despite being rather stoic and lone wolfish, owns a ridiculously cute AllMate--an artificially-made being with A.I. and a distinct personality--
called Usagimodoki (translated: Psuedo-Rabbit), a cube-shaped bunny.
However, the biggest contribution to his popularity and favoritism with many fans might be his back-story; the other characters have back-stories that can be just as tear-jerking, but his in particular is something many sympathize with due to it easily being the most relatable. The circumstances may be slightly different, but regardless, anyone who's dealt with abusive parents will most likely know the feeling.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt it.
As for a proper response to your statement:

He's also the biggest hypocrite to ever exist; my brother went through the trouble to buy him a movie for Father's Day titled "Son of God"
(just because it happened to have the word God on it), and he refused it--reason being it had cursing in it.
Yet he himself has no qualms over cursing as many times as he can in a day.
(I could mention a few other things that are hypocritical of him, but I'm sick of writing about the aft-hole.)

I don't really watch anime anymore. I only read hentai manga, mostly the less offensive, normal stuff. (I mean no rape, just regular, consensual stuff.) I don't think you would talk with me about those sorts of things.
