        ...I subdivide the model, usually by three...
  Aha! So 75K vertices go up to 600K; is that it?

Glue control? Beautiful bends? Never tried any of those!

My inclination is to (a) fiddle the morph dials as far as they’ll go;
(b) add some D-Formers, and maybe convert them to morphs;
(c) export .obj to Blender, fiddle some more, re-import to DS with MorphLoader Pro.

To improve bends, I’d be inclined to sink into Figure Setup / Content Creator
toolkits and lengthy explanations (of Extended Remote Control et al.)
from official and unofficial sources —but that’s still on the back burner for me!

Unfortunately, sculpting meshes in Blender & Z-Brush is currently outside of my wheelhouse. I don't currently have the technical knowledge to even attempt it.

Perhaps someday!

Yes :

  • the camera angle is refreshing, inspiring;
  • the composition/framing is perfect;
  • I like the transition from a macro-style foreground to the background,
    without depht-of-field blur!
  • I also like the color scheme of the foreground stones.
  • The structure, of course, adds tons of ambiguity.

Right: your Marsilia North Coast ! Are you a professional architect?

I’m not, but I aspire to construct a 3D model of at least one
of the cities that I gloss over, here ,
so I wanted to see if anybody else on DA had a similar ongoing project.

One of the things I like about your Marsilia is the fact that
you actually show an abundance of people!

What I have yet to see [have you?] is somebody willing and able
to go to the trouble of posting a series of views of a neighborhood,
a public square, city park, or a mall, with lots of people in each shot:
a bit like Google’s “street view”.

In fact, DA insists that visitors have their browsers upgraded to html5,
which allows you to do object-centered or camera-centered virtual reality
without any plugins.

Have you ever considered going that far?

Ah, yes; an artist who is comfortable with Blender ,
scripts her own materials with Python [have you tried OSL yet?]
hand codes CSS —oh, yes—
we may have a tip or a hack to exchange, now and then...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kobaltkween In reply to ttobserve [2013-08-29 23:54:50 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like a good idea!   So far, I haven't needed to script materials in OSL yet, because the basics have been simple enough to just make into groups.  The interesting OSL materials I've tried out haven't been so much on shading as texturing.  And I just don't have a handle on Blender's procedurals at all.  So where Poser kind of benefits from me scripting some of the basics because of its lack of reality (specular nodes that aren't real reflections) and inability to customize (the new compound node doesn't seem to have a way to customize inputs and outputs), what I'd want to script in Blender would be more about the more specific stuff I'd want to do.  Most of the stuff that's cleaner for me as equations and code is in Blender involves different types of generated maps.  But I haven't explored Cycles enough to have a general feel for that sort of thing.

That said, I've looked at OSL code, and it seems pretty straight-forward and clean.  And if they don't add a marble soon, I'm going to need to figure out how to code one.

Blender, Cycles, and triax/Genesis all have excellent potential

that is mostly untapped by artists, thus far.

Back in June I posted a bug report that was briefly seen by Brecht Van Lommel

but has since lain dormant, indicating that I must still be the only user

who really really wants to put PyDrivers into Cycles nodes !

On August 18th, Brecht posted a developer blog to the effect that
Cycles was now under a more permissive license,
which he expected would soon lead to the use of Cycles as a stand-alone renderer.
This stirred a flurry of responses, and I saw that Ton as well as Brecht
were chiming in, so, finally I added my two cents
  —in the hopes of calling Brecht’s attention to that forgotten bug report!—
but, alas, I posted it just as those two finally gave themselves a week’s vacation.

Anyway, I’ve been a Lux -boy for a couple or more years, but am nowadays

hellbent on squeezing the as-yet-unseen out of that Blender/Cycles combination:

as one example of their untapped potential, I point out this “draping” technique
that I haven’t seen anyone play around with, thus far.

Lost World ?

Oh, yes.
I was looking for an illustration to embellish the statement: Fana Galás is a network of outposts and hamlets
spanning a cluster of islands,
each island an ongoing eco-experiment...Some day perhaps I’ll find the time and skill to make my own panoramas,
and for now I’ve settled on Tropical Islands by ~EvaKedves ,
but there are several aspects of your image that I like:

  • I like the cinematic quality of your render
    (even though Vue’s renderer still has that distinctive grain).

  • I like your composition, including the girl in the midground:
    for one thing, I have a weakness for fetching females;
    for another, architectural establishing shots
    often lack any kind of humanoid characters,
    and that, in my opinion, fails to connect, emotionally.

  • Your architecture is interestingly ambiguous:
    ancient, or futuristic?
    Your flying machine adds “intrigue”!
