Ah, yes; the Sea Filly !
Your gallery shows a wide range of styles and quality,
and your best work shows that you really have all it takes,
in terms of artistry and subject matter, to really shine!
You seem to be overworked at a hospital, these days.
Australia?
How has that fires/flood succession treated you, thus far?

Many thanks for your kind words.
You are right, I work in a metropolitan Australian hospital (every now and then I'm required to work in a remote location for a few months, which I actually enjoy). I'm still progressing through basic training which means I have exams next year, which means I have to start studying now.
As for the floods and fires, the floods are north of me, the fires are south (across the Tasman). There were some fires also north of me but not particularly close, no.
The main thing that bothers me about my gallery is that I don't have any pieces in which I have really spent ages really nutting out the quality control and actually refining it to a professional standard. So this year, I aim for all my submissions to do just that. As a result there won't be many. At all. But probably I will procrastinate sufficiently such that there will be some.

Some participants here are so desperate to show productivity
that they don’t allow themselves to “stall” for quality control,
even though it’s obvious to me that,
if I could massage their back and pay them by the hour, they could do wonders!

Well, if you want to build up your savings
—you do want that, right?—
then your best prospect is to stay put
with your current hourly rates!

If it does, and you don’t hate it, stick with it.
Now and then, sniff around.

It "sort of" pays my bills. I don't actually have any other options, there's a set award rate per grade and that's what I get lol. I'm just hanging out for next year when my paygrade kicks up a notch.
But I love the job itself and as long as I'm not going destitute I'll see my training through. Extra income would be nice, though.

I suspect not yet, not this year, or probably next year. Maybe when I've improved enough (and have more time). It's bad enough that I'm not quite finishing my other non-work project commitments!

Delighted!
One o’ these years,
I should get to the point of 3D-modeling and rendering
some landscape like that , so, yes: I want to keep it handy!
In particular, I like the flat tops with vertical walls:
perfect nesting sites for Pegicornitaurs, and not that easy to find.
The ones that Pegicornitaurs have access to, are well inventoried,
and a lot of negotiating goes into deciding
who gets to use which one, next.

Well, HELLO, there!
The most recent Pegicornitaur I’ve seen on DA
is the one YOU posted , over a year ago!
For over a year now,
I’ve been struggling to get some decent illustrations out the door,
but the more deeply I get involved
—and I am, deeply, involved— [meshes and photons]
the more slowly I progress.
Eventually, that trend ought to reverse itself, don’t you think?
Meanwhile, *Valedhelven has been ever more absent,
so it’s great to see YOU in full production mode!
Your latest artwork is starting to look strikingly professional!

DarionDamage In reply to ttobserve [2012-11-14 06:39:31 +0000 UTC]
The trend will reverse itself at some point. Don't give up on your world creation! It is the most rewarding hobby that I know of. And your pegicorntaur lands are some of the most unique I've seen on dA. So it is worth it!
And thank you! I am trying to improve myself - after a long time of searching for a style, I have returned to what I had, and instead try to add things to it and improve the general outcome. A long way to go, still

ttobserve In reply to DarionDamage [2012-11-15 23:00:46 +0000 UTC]
Now, see, that’s the whipping I need, now and then!
Otherwise I’ll spend three months trying to get a cuticle just right.
Give up is not in my plans; but, maybe I should lower my standards,
post a piece now and then that makes sense
—regarding connections, I’m as obsessive as you are—
and then, eventually, go back and improve. What do YOU think?
An aspiration that I don’t want to let go of, is, that Pegicornitaur “hair” is feather-based.
Earlier this year I was in the process of making some dials that would move
the 400 or so feathers on a Pegicornitaur’s scalp, in concert,
as a way to show emotions and emphasis while speaking.
[Oh, the expressiveness!]
I know I can achieve that, by adding little snippets of Python code to Blender [my main 3D tool],
but there was so much else to do before I could post any one of the scenes I have in preparation,
that I asked myself: “Can’t I post something? Even if just a single feather!?”
Sounds reasonable. Except that I can’t post just a feather, and leave it at that.
At the very least, I’d have to put the feather in a glass jar,
and the jar would have to be in a room, and, that would oblige me to show a bit of furniture;
a floor plan; my house; write a little monologue about my little feather sampler.
So, yes: I did write, and it came out GREAT, because, all of a sudden, my sweet neglected Sarit
—who’s been gracing my splash page for over a year now, waiting for a script!—
all of a sudden, I had a script and a role for her, and I don’t wanna back-pedal on that
—I love it— but it entails that I’ve been working on her anatomy for the last three months!
So, yes —as long as my health, etc.— it will come to fruition, IT WILL!!

DarionDamage In reply to ttobserve [2012-11-16 00:01:46 +0000 UTC]
Well, I think even a single feather of a pegicorntaur would make sense! You seem to be a perfectionist, which is a good thing; but a glass jar, a room, furniture, all can exist in our imagination for a month or two, while you are busy adding more feathers to the Pegicorntaur's head. So yes, I would like to encourage you to post feathers, pieces, fragments - it is motivating to communicate with other artists, and sometimes it pushes us a bit along the way and we suddenly discover a short-cut.
May I ask you what you found out about Sarit? I am curious!

Ah, yes: your new skills and props …
You have certainly mastered [mistressed?] the art of reflection.
As for the prop that you can imagine what happens in the back ,
I surmise that the far end (of what we see as vertical) is,
figuratively and literally, a pacifier. Right?

Well, hey, you’ve just prompted me to take a look at your entire gallery, and,
what I see is that you generate fresh ideas faster than you can develop them!
[A problem all to familiar to Yours Truly; ahem. ]
A truly bullish trait about your ideas
—much less common than I can comprehend—
is that you respect and revisit them!
That’s it! Go for it!

Okay; you had it pensive; off in a brown study.
Now it’s wistful.
Glad you didn’t go back to the original I just lost everything-look!
Her left eye is now a tad too big
(or, the lower eyelid a tad too low).
If you’re using “real” media,
there has to be a limit to how much you can edit
an already completed portrait, yes? No?
Anyway: you DO set a high standard, man!
