Yah... I hadn't seem many shots that focus on the rose's thorns instead of the flower. And the water droplets on the leaves gave me added incentive to take the shot.

Im still enjoying the pictures but am becoming increasingly concerned that you have become a bit part in Honey I Shrunk The Kids or Incredible Journey.

hrm, yes, could be a problem... but ...

You can always use a reflective surface (like a mirror, or a white sheet of paper, or something the like) positioned behind the flower so that it would transmit only partially the sun light to the back of the flower. This way your camera ccd shouldn't be damaged

Otherwise, provided your camera is able to control it, you could use a remote flash position behind the flower...

Anyway, just some suggestions, and, btw, I hope you like my gallery, too

While cutting the grass I noticed a dandelion seed caught in a web and got the idea. When I got back to it later, the seed was gone. So I grabbed the closest dandelion and sacrificed it to the web. Voila'!

Blurring the sides was intentional (as you guessed) to give the impression that the whole thing was captured "live".

Pretty sneaky, huh?
