what do you mean by modding?

I'm a friend of Musical and her internet is currently out :c (there's some storms where we live and we live close to eachother)

Modding is making self textures, altering gameplay or physics it's basic "pimp my ride" except in avatar or gameplay etc.
People make awesome cool maps, i used to have some experience with it. 
But they were mods friends gave me which i tried modding over it (because applying it to work properly takes more work then simply editing a texture)
i hope i am making sense im a terrible explainer especially when im tired 
and no worries hope they are ok
