Ah, I am self promoting here with a complete and utter lack of shame, and for that I must apologize, but I fear I must ask.
I co-run an Animorphs review blog over at [link]
We're planning on having a fanart day next week, and I was hoping you would like to include something. If there is something you would like us to show, you can send it to CinnamonBunzuh@gmail.com. We will credit you and link back to this account, or another website of yours if you'd like.
Anywho, that's all for now.

Hahaha, not quite! XD I went to SCAD in Savannah so I did a bunch of the Atlanta cons, including AWA, MomoCon, and FWA. Momo used some of my art last year too! [link] I'm really bummed I won't be able to make it this year, but I graduated and am back in Texas now. :c Hilariously though, my brother's now at GATech? XD

It's a good time to be "nostalgia-ing it up" (lol, love that term xD) since the books are supposed to be re-released this year. I'll try to put my nose back to the grindstone and crank out a few more pages, but wtf, why is January so busy?

You. You draw Animorphs. D8 And I'm just, like...thrilled.
I have not read Animorphs in such a long time, but I still love them dearly. 3C You know...if you're into drawing comics based on the books...I might be interested in writing a script... I think it's a really cool idea to update the books a bit. I always crave something a little more adult, and I've been playing with the idea of writing a comic script anyway...
Um...well, you know what? I'm just gonna let that idea hang for a while and see what happens.

fauxfolklore In reply to Whes [2010-12-10 04:24:29 +0000 UTC]
Omg, that would be cool if you could write a script! You seem to be a huge fan and I think that's important when picking out what parts to use and what can be left out, because from my own experience that part is seriously hard. I would rather leave that work to someone else and then obediently (ok, maybe with some creative interpretation here and there) follow the script like a good little artist. What do you have in mind to update the books/make it a little more adult?
At the moment I'm concentrating on #20 and hopefully, eventually, (like in a decade) do the David trilogy. I'm currently working with ~HotPinkCoffee on #20 and I want to ask her if she's still up for #21 and #22, since we both have an affinity for Rachel with a fork getting aggro on David.
If you're interested in that, maybe you can talk to her, see if you two can collaborate. If not, I wouldn't mind doing short side-comics of certain scenes from various Animorphs books--just pick a favorite one!

Whes In reply to fauxfolklore [2010-12-10 07:12:24 +0000 UTC]
Side-comics of smaller scenes sounds like SUCH a great idea to start with! That's much more manageable for me, who has never written a script before. XD I'd LOVE to collaborate with you!
The David trilogy is a great sequence to draw because it's so intense and pivotal! Good choice.
The first thing that always comes to my mind, too, is the horrible violence of shoving a fork into someone's ear. D8 That and...David getting stuck in his rat morph. And the terrifying image of a bloody red-tailed hawk bleeding into the sheets! D8! I was so scared at that moment that Tobias was dead that I almost wasn't able to keep reading. 8,| David is such a scary psycho! DD8
As for how I'd like to update the series, well...it's difficult to pin down exact things. It's mostly that I'd like to make the situations more believable and the dialogue more natural and realistic. I love Animorphs, it's true, and since I read them when I was younger, it was perfect for me! But now, as I get older, I look back and notice that some things from the books are just so funny and childish they almost make me cringe. XD Like Ax eating candy off the theatre floor--it's funny and entertaining, but I somehow doubt a young military cadet and younger brother of an Andalite prince war hero would take such an obvious risk of blowing his cover; and of course someone as smart and worldly as Ax would know without question that eating off the floor and eating cigarette butts are not normal, acceptable human things to do. Just stuff like that.
I'm really such a sucker for serious drama. DX
I'll look through my books again over Christmas break and find some scenes I'd like to write, OK? This could be so much fun! C3
In the meantime, who are your favorite characters? Favorite story arcs? Favorite...whatever!

Awesome! I can't wait to see what scenes strike your fancy. Hmmm, I can't think of any particular scene at the moment. You'll have to give me the holiday to mull it over.

Whes In reply to fauxfolklore [2010-12-11 08:05:53 +0000 UTC]
That's all right. XD You think about it. I won't know for sure, of course, until I look through the books, but I'm already thinking about some scenes I'd like to explore. XD Maybe a death scare from Elfangor's Secret or some intimate Rachel-Tobias moments from In the Time of Dinosaurs (especially when they realize they stay injured even after morphing). Tobias learning about his parents would be good, too. Or Cassie's being able to morph back out of butterfly. Or the Auxiliary Animorphs morphing for the first time. Or...or...or...
I'll just look through the books and let you know later, eh? XD
P.S. My favorite characters are Rachel and Tobias, though I came to really like Marco toward the end, too. I bet if I read through the series again, I'll like them all even better.

In case you need something to jog your memory, I was reading through his thread of memorable quotes from the books ([link] ) and there are so many good ones.
I especially like the one where Marco is driving in Megamorphs #1 and Jake is yelling in his ear, "DO. YOU. JUST. HATE. TRASHCANS?!"
But I realize my comic timing is abysmal, so I am totally for the more serious, angsty scenes. It's up to you-oo!

Oh my gosh, I LOVE that Marco quote! 8D I would so write that scene for you! 8D (That's actually one of the quotes from the books I remember really well. XD So funny!)
Thanks for the link!

Thanks. %^_^% I Modeled his upper carapace a bit after Sonny from I, Robot (beause I really like that design), and his head after the Egyptian god Anubis (I happened to be watching "The Mummy" whist sketching).
I love the way that you're able to color your comics (especially the Rachel/Tobias ones). Do you use Photoshop? If so, could you put together a tutorial on how to do so?

fauxfolklore In reply to praxcrown5 [2010-12-03 00:55:02 +0000 UTC]
I think it's fitting that the Chee design has bits of Egyptian flair. I think somewhere in the book Erek said that he helped build the pyramids or something! Maybe it was the Chee that inadvertently influenced Egyptian art and not the other way around, lol.
As for how I color my comics, I use a combination of Illustrator and GIMP (I need to reinstall Photoshop one day...), but mostly it's done in Illustrator. I recently got an iPad (squee!) and it's already changed my coloring process for the quicker. But for the last Rachel and Tobias page, I think I'll stick to the old way to keep all the somewhat pages consistent (and do a tutorial while I'm at it!).
