Description
I've been looking at a lot of different art styles lately, and contemplating how to make my own style a little more... interesting.I like Owen Mercer (Captain Boomerang II) a lot, partly because of how he ties into the Speedster family, but also because of his own history, and what little we've seen of his character in the comics (though I haven't read Identity Crisis, so I know less than most). I guess a large part is the whole 'losing your father' thing, and his feelings of frustration, and anger, and I since he took up the mantle, I guess he felt swome pride for his father - despite the way the Rogues treated him.
That's kind of what I was going for: isolation, lonleniess, a bit of regrett. I didn't go out of my way to make it look like Owen because 1) I wanted to figure out what I saw as the distinguising features of Owen - the scarf, the hair, and the earrings (which got lost in all the messy lineart), and 2)I just needed to get the idea down, and I want to do a better version later anyway. The pose is more simplistic than I intended, and I'm determined to nail the art of backgrounds at some point.
Done with black and blue ball point pen, black 0.4 felt tip artline, and orage highlighter. I kind of worry a lot when I draw in pen - which is why I stick to leads and ink when I've finished fretting about details - because I worry about them looking too busy, or how to cover a mistake and such. However, I think it turned out okay.
