Yeah, it's just Mephilies isn't the evil side of Sonic's evil side. In the cutsence, for the new Sonic The Hedgehog game, it shows Mephilies emerging out of Shadow's Shadow, thats all.

Just to say, Mephiles is not another hedgehog, he is just the "demon" inarnation, the mind wich was separated of iblis. He just adopts ShadowΒ΄s form but thatΒ΄s all.

If he choosed to take the form of a cofee cup, it would have been a less interesting enemy.
He's a hedgehog because people want more and more evil hedgehogs, so the demon-story-stuff is just there to justify the fact that the producers have added an even more evil hedgehog to the series.
