Oh, yeah! It's Gamera! The Invincible! The Brave! The Friend of All Children! The Last Hope! The Guardian of the Universe, baby! Let's goooo!

I can't tell you how excited I am about this piece. I saw Godzilla vs. Kong earlier this week, and that fired up the kaiju fan in me, and I simply had to draw one. I decided to go with one of my favorite movie monsters, Gamera! Yeah, I love Godzilla as much as the next kaiju fan, I really truly do, but Gamera's just so memorable, and his movies are so crazy and out there, I can't help but love the guy. I mean, the Showa films are so goofy, I have a taste for a thick layer of cheese in my movies, and of course the Heisei trilogy is just downright amazing. This Gamera isn't based on any particular suit, I really just wanted to go my own way with it instead. I based parts of him off a snapping turtle, other parts off a box turtle. I looked at both Showa and Heisei, and I came away with something I really liked. Only thing I fudged up is the feet are swapped, but honestly, it doesn't bother me so much now that it's finished.

I went a bit outta my comfort zone with this, and I'm glad I did. I wasn't sure I could pull off an erupting volcano but I managed it and I'm so stoked about it. The intense red glow was so fun to bathe Gamera in, and he just looks so damn cool in his element. What can I say? The turtle loves his fire.
