In 2023, it will be 5 years since the death of David Yanovich Cherkassky, the greatest Soviet and Ukrainian director and animator who created a whole package of Soviet adventure animated films with elements of insane buffoonery, clownery and comedy: "The Adventures of Captain Vrungel" (1976-1979), "Doctor Aibolit "(1984-1985) and "Return to Treasure Island" (1988).
The latest film, by the way, received a second wind last year thanks to memes about Dr. Livesey and his unusual walking at the bar with Jimmy Hawkins and Squire Trelawney.
His departure for me in October 2018 was a great loss, it feels like I lost my dearest and closest friend. Although, in fact, I was not familiar with Cherkassky and knew him only from the opening credits from cartoons.

Thanks to him (as well as Volodymyr Dakhno), Ukrainian animation sparkled with new colors and acquired new memorable characters. No one could turn the world of adventure comedy inside out as much as David Yanovich Cherkassky. Peace be upon him, and glory to Ukraine.
