Description
Featuring 007 SM Goldie Locks , a SardinianRanchHorse-------------------------------------------------------------
Aziza parked the truck at the entrance to Valedale village. After their halter show, Aziza felt the need to spend a little bit more quality time with Goldie than usual. The mare was still a bit weary of her, but Aziza was confident this could be resolved as they got to know each other. So to do just that, Aziza planned a trail ride with the Sardinian horse. Goldie was still young, and if she was going to be a showhorse she needed to be desensitized to a busy environment.
Valedale Village was booming with activity, as usual. Aziza had parked a bit outside the entrance, unsure if a closer parking spot was available. She got out of the truck, quickly backing Goldie out of the trailer. Aziza spotted her old friend, Anne, in the distance and waved.
Hilda was on her beloved horse Concord, a warmblood that towered over the ranch horse Aziza held. "How are you, Anne? It's been a long time!" Aziza said as Anne approached her.
"Oh you know, same old stuff. Saving the world, defeating evil corporations, no big deal." Anne responded nonchalantly.
Aziza rolled her eyes playfully, "Right, as if."
Anne chuckled. "So how's the new job going."
Aziza walked to the tack room to begin saddling Goldie. "Pretty great! Lots of work to do and horses to ride, just the way I like it."
Anne nodded. "Is it weird being at Jorvik Stables now? Without Herman... without it even being the same name anymore?"
Aziza sighed. The now Serenity Motion Stables that Presley purchased was known as Jorvik Stables for over a hundred years. And the last owner, a man named Herman, had become a dear friend of Aziza's. Presley purchased the property after Herman passed and there was no one else to claim it. "Yeah... it does feel weird. But, it's exciting to see the place so lively again. I had never seen it with so many horses in it, Herman only had his one Quarter Horse. Says she wants to bring back the Equestrian Festival, too."
"The Equestrian Festival? Really? Isn't that a couple of months away?"
"Yeah, yeah it is. Presley has been running around everywhere getting stuff repaired that Herman couldn't do. The entire indoor arena had to be rebuilt, the wood on all the stalls was dry rotted, and the show jumping ring was all overgrown. The place looked extravagant from a distance, but it was honestly a wreck up close." Aziza responded, remembering how shocked she was to see the state of the facilities. Jorvik Stables was always described to her as being Jorvik's elite facility. Seeing the reality of it was a shock to her.
"Well, I'm happy someone that has horses got it. Could you imagine what GED would have done to the place?" Anne said, feigning a shudder. GED was a large-scale corporation known for buying all the land in Jorvik they could to drill for minerals and devastate the surrounding wildlife.
"They would have flattened the place and be drilling for oil by now, no doubt."
Anne nodded in agreement. "I think Alex is calling me, we'll have to catch up sometime! Maybe we could have a riding day at Jorvik, erm, Serenity Motion soon!"
"Yeah, that sounds great. I'll text you! Bye!" Aziza waved as Anne and Concord walked in the direction of Valedale Village.
Aziza had finished tacking up Goldie during the conversation. She grabbed the reins of the mare and led her down to the entrance of the trail. The woods outside of Valedale Village were known as Hollow Woods and were the perfect place to trail ride. The crash of waterfalls in the distance, fireflies danced overhead, and the singing of birds was all around. The perfect place to bring a skittish 4-year-old mare.
Aziza decided to bring Goldie down the trail that led to the eastern part of the woods. It was typically less crowded which Aziza felt the horse would appreciate for today.
As they started walking down the trail, a squirrel appeared on the path ahead. Goldie froze immediately. Aziza braced for the mare to react. To Aziza's surprise, Goldie stood there perfectly still as the creature disappeared back into the woods.
"You're a clever one, you know," Aziza said to the mare. Most horses tend to bolt when put in a stressful situation. So the fact that Goldie stood still instead of dangerously running away, was a good sign that the mare wasn't as overactive as Aziza thought. Aziza asked Goldie for a walk and continued down the path. She felt Goldie keeping a closer eye on the tall grass on either side of the footing.
As they continued down the trail, she could almost feel the horse under her starting to relax. Squirrels were running around, a firefly had almost landed on her nose, and the loud waterfall nearby no longer bothered the horse. Aziza, too, relaxed as they rode. As they came up a hill, Aziza asked Goldie for a trot. While relaxing, trail riding was relaxing, it was also an opportunity to condition and exercise the horses. The footing on the trails also encourages the horses to pay special attention to where they place their feet as they move.
Aziza slowed the mare back down to a walk, the horse was sweaty and breathing slightly hard. The horse trailer was almost back in view. Aziza was very happy with how Goldie had behaved today and felt as though she had gotten to know the horse a lot better. Aziza couldn't wait to progress with Goldie as she became a show horse.
She pulled the mare to a halt once they had reached the trailer. She slid off the bridle, put on her halter, and offered Goldie some water. She eagerly accepted, drinking almost the entire bucket. Aziza reached into the tack room of the trailer and gave Goldie a treat. Aziza thought too when she offered her a treat at the halter show, and Goldie wouldn't even come near her hand without jumping back. Now, Goldie calmly ate the treat from Aziza's palm. Aziza smiled and continued untacking the horse.

What a cute, happy pair!! The depth perception on this one gave me a run for my money, but I THINK I managed it okay. Some of the flowers still haunt me, though.
