Description
I've been a little hesitant to share this, but you know what? It needs to be out there.
Many of you know I make my art very character-centric, so this is, dare I say, a bit out of character for me. But hey, this goes to show that the only limits you have are the ones you never push.
Last year, I heard about an art club in my area, attended one of their meetings, and even got to show off some of my own work, to many people's delight. I've been trying to participate more with them, but last year, conventions and such kept landing on the days they'd meet up.
Well, FINALLY I was able to go to this month's meeting, and it was great seeing these good folks again. And just last week, we had an artist come in to host a workshop. I couldn't turn that down, since I've been CRAVING such an occasion to hang out with fellow art lovers and do nothing but make art.
One of the big lessons here was learning how to use natural sponges, primarily to make the foliage. I had never used one before (keep in mind, I'm relatively new to the painting game), and this was such an eye-opening experience. I know there are things I could have done better here, but I would rather take what I learned and apply that to a new painting; in other words, I had a fantastic time making this, and I really want to try it again - the kinda feeling you want to aim for after finishing a piece.
As for the scene itself, we were all more or less doing the same thing, but I put my own spin with the pond, as well as going for an overall muggy feel, like a summer rainstorm passed through moments ago, and the sun is beginning to take back the sky.
