Description     Concept art aside, it's been a while since I've posted any 'The Great Frebbventure' updates. I've kind of been saving up for a new public demo, but I actually ended up making so many changes, improvements, additions, and subtractions, that I decided to skip that. I've already basically given away half a game and a solid year of development for free; if I'm going to go back and completely overhaul that same half...well, even I have enough business sense to know it's time to quit giving out free samples, and start saving things to put on the shelf.

The biggest change thus far is a playable Drinn. While I initially planned to have her recaptured and eventually unlocked as the final playable character in World 4, she now joins your party immediately after her initial rescue midway through World 1. Moved up a bit less but still significantly, Mindstein now becomes playable at the same time as Roxy; unlocking immediately after the first stage of World 2, instead of the first boss of World 3. While I could fluff myself up with some penitent speech about how horribly retrograde it was of me to consider damseling the same girl character twice in one game, the simple truth is that I wanted the player to have their full roster assembled sooner than later.

The second major change is overall polish. Sprites, tiles, backgrounds, decorations, physics and controls, enemy and hazard placement...a whole mess of things like that have been painstakingly redone in service of a smoother, more immersive game that, above all, starts off on a stronger foot. A good amount of writing and dialogue has also been added, smoothed, and - for lack of a better term - 'de-cringed.' The game is still intended to be funny, but also a bit more sincere; with more of the humor coming from how out of touch the villains are with reality, and how unwilling Frebb himself is to take them seriously, than every single line being a "ha ha funny joke."

The third is just an assortment of menu, tutorial, and miscellaneous features. My favorite of these is the Frebbestiary, pictured in the lower screenshot. It's pretty much exactly what it looks and sounds like; I've always been a huge fan of things like the Tattle feature in the Paper Mario games or the Piklopedia, so being the absolute lore-writing machine that I am, I decided to include a similar bestiary feature to my own game.
