While her mother would attempt to provide the minimum level of parental care, her father was deeply entrenched in a gambling and alcohol addiction that would often leave them in debt to various creditors. This would be the source of endless conflict within the home and after Angel turned seven her mother would finally have enough and leave them to fend for themselves.
With no choice but to act as a buffer between her father and her brother, Angel would take on the mantle of mother to her sibling and reluctant caretaker of her small home in an attempt to keep the peace her mother had never found. It was not a labor of love, it was a matter of necessity, something that would drive a wedge between the siblings as they continued to grow. Debts growing larger with them, she would be forced to drop out of highschool at the age of fifteen to begin working to keep their heads above water and the collectors at bay while their father spiraled. It was a futile effort, her father ignoring them at best and beating them at worst until he was eventually found dead outside of the casino he frequented shortly after she turned eighteen.

Almost a mirror of their parents, the fragile peace she had managed to maintain in her home was shattered with their solitary parent now gone. Between who would be responsible for the debts and their aspirations, the two siblings could not seem to reconcile. While Angel wanted to provide her brother the chance at a higher education and career she would never have, his mind was set on pursuing his own dreams despite the risks and financial instability it would bring leaving Angel to process their loss alone.

A breaking point would be reached after a few months and Damien would pack his things and leave, deciding to run off with his friends to start their own band against his sister’s wishes. For the first time in her life, Angel was entirely alone, with only herself to take care of. Deciding she could no longer tolerate putting her needs second, she would go back to finish her education and pursue a path where she would never again be beneath someone. After several difficult years she would obtain her diploma and a BAS in business, drafting up a plan and pooling every cent she’d saved. With no sign of her brother returning, she would leave her life in Goldenrod behind and board the next plane out. She had heard rumors of an island chain offering starter loans to small businesses and, deciding to take the leap, would make her way to Harthaven to sink her fangs into the opportunity at a new life.
