the origin of both characters is the same, the original doctor Eggman/Robotnik from the clasic sonic games:

From this character they created this Robotnik, and some years late also the sonic adventure's version of robotnick (a videogame)

Sonic X used the sonic Adventure version of Eggman. So in some way we can say that this one and the sonic X one are brothers-in-design xD

lol, actually this guy was a remake of the bad guy from the clasic sonic games. Then they redesigned him in the videogames for the adventures saga, and the Eggman from the sonic X is the same as the sonic adventure design ^^
