The Johnson M1941 is USMC issue. Not US Army issue.

Yes true, it hasn't an official designation in the table, and the captation reports that it was issued to the USMC, while it isn't written that it was issued to the OSS and to the 1st Special Force Operational Detachment of the US Army. I had a little of room where I could have put the Reising SMG, or a Bazooka, but the Johnson was very appealing, sorry but it is no coincidence that I am on deviant art rather than on a military blog

You are and were most welcome, Johnson tried untiringly but also in vain to have his semi-automatic rifle and his light machine gun approved by the US Army's Ordnance Department.

Ya, the Israeli Dror that was the evolution of the Johnson was a great weapon indeed.

I was under the impression that the Garand fired the same cartridge as the Springfield, 30-06. Is this wrong?
Also, happy to see that this landed on the ''hot'' section of DA

Yes it's so, the fact is that I've reported in the table the official designation of the Ordnance Service of the US Army that was: "U.S. Rifle, Caliber 30, M1" usriflecal30m1.com/

www.deviantart.com/cypherxix is right, it cames from the filippino war, were it was used by the native population, it was both a machete used to clear off the vegetation and as melee weapon.

But I practice Russian technique
in which it is held downward with handle in between ring and index finger so u could imagine that any round handle would cause blisters even with thick gloves

Oh, nice to see you back, old friend! Pity the Browning .50 caliber didn't fit in. Otherwise, verrry nice. I've noticed the US has always endeavoured to kit out it's soldiers with good equipment, which is a lesson for many militaries around the world!!
Great as usual!

Tells us the caliber of all the guns except the BAR and Johnson
Besides that small nitpick, this is a good list of weapons with nice info that I didn't really know in the desc ^^

AndreaSilva60 In reply to Faxy-Fox [2018-07-19 17:42:43 +0000 UTC]
Thank you, I reported the official designation of the US Army, but I haven't found that of the BAR, while the Johnson wasn't officially adopted by the Ordnance Department of the U.S. Army, but directly bought by the USMC that had a limited autonomy, nevertheless the caliber was the great .30-06 rimless.

Faxy-Fox In reply to AndreaSilva60 [2018-07-19 17:46:56 +0000 UTC]
Whilst they both use .30-06, the BAR could also handle several other calibers such as the .303 British

It's true, The BAR was a best-sellers weapon, it was produced in Sweden too, Poland adopted the BAR 7.92x57 mm Mauser, the Belgium the BAR 7.65x55 mm Mauser.

Just two quick things. The M1 Garand was semi-automatic as was the M1 Carbine. The M2 carbine was full auto and had better stopping power than both the tommy gun and the grease gun. Great detail on the paintings though. I'd love to own a Garand and a M1 Carbine. One other advantage we had was that we didn't have a bunch of different ammunition so it made it easier to supply the troops. The BAR, Garand and 1903 all used the same ammo as did both sub machine guns and the pistols.
Sorry I love history.

Skoshi8 In reply to laurichg [2018-07-19 19:14:02 +0000 UTC]
The carbine was very popular, but the magazines were notoriously flimsy. The soldiers basically tossed them away when they were empty, rather than bother with reloading them.

AndreaSilva60 In reply to Skoshi8 [2018-08-16 16:05:01 +0000 UTC]
For an Italian it is incredible to think how rich the American army was, we had the machine gun Breda 37 that put the spent cartridge cases back in the magazine so you could reload them.
We'd better stay at our home eating spaghetti and playing the mandolin.
