From my Myth & Folklore series, my interpretation of the Marid. Said in Islamic literature to be the most powerful and most arrogant of the Jinni. They were capable of granting wishes but only did so if defeated in battle or flattered to the extreme. This particular Marid is looking at the potential wish-seeker before him with the same amount of love that most of us would have for a cockroach that just walked across our Cheerios.
