Description
I created this as a book cover for my friend. It's a study on dyslexia and It took me forever to get this image to say what I wanted it to say. I went through 3 compositions, 2 dress designs, 3 color schemes and no less than 4 re-paints on the water. @_@()

Anyway when I painted in the upside-down reflections of the clouds I felt like this is what I've been looking for.
It's always terrifying to do covers like these because they stay as a memento for the researcher for such a long time. I still remember being so afraid to do the cover for my boyfriend's brain research study. It was all kinds of mental anguish.

This one had additional pressure because the author who's a dear friend of mine left Finland because she was hired in Seattle and I wanted the cover to have something that would make her think of this place of thousand lakes.

After drawing the sketch which can be seen in my gallery I blocked in a blob of dark greenish blue and thought to myself "what if I do the entire thing with just these 2 colors I have on the image?" So that led to this kind of odd color palette.
People often ask me about my process and steps I go through to create a painting but reading this you've probably figured out that every painting is a different kind of opportunity to experiment with odd ideas that I'm frankly not that sure will lead anywhere!

What gets me through is the grit and determination not to let an image go forward to the client or anyone else's eyes until I feel like it's good enough for that. (this is definitely not a good thing sometimes when the other me would just like to upload a sketch but that part of me is quickly whipped into a corner )
