"Day 38. I have traveled another two miles into the jungle. There are no signs that Sigerson ever got this far, so I doubt that I shall ever find him. Yet despite my lack of success I feel as if I am being watched. Silly, I know. This area is certainly uninhabited. None of our flyovers ever uncovered any man-made structures or bands of people around here. Sigerson is undoubtedly lying dead in some other part of this vast terrain. For me to stumble upon him now would be the height of coincidence. Still, I have felt eyes upon me occasionally. Surely this must be due to the presence of some beast kept at bay by my fire. The isolation must be getting to me. In another two days I shall turn back and retrace my path. Sigerson was a friend, but friendship has it's limits and the company cannot fault me for any lack of trying to locate him. A man needs the company of other humans after all, be they man or (especially) woman or else he runs the risk of going mad."
