Description This is a little bit of a revisit to an old idea – “Orbit” was originally just me mucking about but became very popular for prints and publishing – however I never really thought that much about it at the time (I was literally just sketching space art as a bit of fun between projects). I loved the idea of the piece so now, 8 years on I've had another stab at it.

“A highly advanced race builds an enormous spaceport off the coast of a continent, dwafing the 20km high skyscrapers on the land, the main structure brushing the cloud layers with near 100km diameter docking spurs surrounding it. Built above the main structure, another level that is beyond the atmosphere – allowing craft to dock without braving the weather on the planet”

Painted in Adobe PS CS3
Wacom Intous 3 Tablet
Original res 5k wide
About 20-22 hour work.
I used some great photos of Earth from space as reference for the world.

I feel 100% blown away. Serious. And this gave me some great inspiration for something I'm writing to boot. Once I have some proper money that isn't earmarked for food or rent, consider the book bought .
I gotta say though, my favourite thing about this piece is just how big everything feels. I know that's the point, but so few actually manage getting the feeling of the scale right .

Great image The only detail standing out is the moon - it's border looks sharper than anything around.
