Description
"Probably no family of carnivores is so poorly known as the viverrids..."-T.A. Vaughan, Mammalogy
Back to the submitting-these-things groove? Here is the very large and similar looking Team Genet, everyone's favourite slinky little vivs. Which I made different colours to save myself going mad drawing 13 spotty brownish-grey animals
I want a purple one <3
For those tuning in now, this is part of my spur of the moment idea to draw all 34 species of viverrid for my big analysis on TDF.
I actually managed to find a website with pelts for all the different species, since googling any genet gives you mainly pictures of small spots and large spots, but it seems to have died so I can't show my working and you're going to have to take my word for it
FUN THINGS TO KNOW:
-Genets are considered the closest viverrids to the original carnivore form. They're adaptable but less specialised than the more omnivorous civets.
-Aquatic genets are actually pretty crappy swimmers. They hunt by tapping the surface of water to attract fish. It then puts its whiskers in the water to feel when the fish is near.
-It is really hard to find species specific stuff on these boogers...at the moment I'm reading a 108 page paper on large spotted genets that a friend found, trawling it for useful stuff. At the moment it's lots of diagrams of genet movement, so it's pretty adorable

I can't wait for the analysis, especially the bugnommy one. And I am a sucker for the white muzzle and black facial markings. Kudos to you~! Genets look very much alike to me >>.

ARGH I am so slow with my analysis writing >> The Owstie one is getting there, cute little bugnommers that they are.
Genets are all the same, I say it all the time but they are still more popular than treecivets *slight resentment* I do love them though, the more I look at them the more I melt from the adorable.
Obviously they have mind control powers.

More viverids.
Your giant viverid analysis is going to have the cutest/awesomest pictures.
Are there any species left, or have you drawn them all, now?

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY VIVERRIDS
I've actually drawn them all, and the analysis was finished a while ago too...it's in the [newer] general analysis thread with Liz's mustelid one and Mea's herpestid one. I'm just really really slow to upload them here >>

I love genets, look at them all! You did a wonderful job finding that pelt site, I bet that was probably the only way you would have seen them, which is a shame. Wonderful job, love <3

It's such a pain that it went down...I knew I should've saved all the pictures. Hopefully they'll put it back up.
And thanks <3

It did go down while I was drawing these and I went 'D:' but then it came back. I'm holding out hope that it'll do it again

I love how creative all your poses are! ;.; <3
The aqatic genet is my favourite one here. Not sure why, it could be the pose, or the colours, or that gorgeous swirly marking, but gah, it's so pretty. <333

I like the aquatic one most too I sketched him before I started reading about how they really don't like swimming and didn't have the heart to change the pose >>
That's my favourite glyph-y marking too, I copied it off my pocket watch
