Lightning's just out fighting monsters like normal and he's talking to her over a communicator. Yep, the white-haired guy's name is Hope, and that's his default costume. I wouldn't call anyone else's clothes in this "formal dress", haha.

Haha no problem, though I think a lot of people were bothered by it, it's definitely not just you and me. (Thing is though that she wasn't even smiling, which made it even weirder IMO. She just looks at you with these cold dead eyes and... yeah, no, I don't need you doing that while I'm playing thanks.)
And yeah, it's being cut and I'm very glad about that. Hopefully there won't be anything else too OOC that's left in.

No. No I didn't want any of this. I WANTED paradigms, party systems, crystarium levelling, A FREAKING GUNBLADE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD YOU CANNOT CHANGE HER WEAPON AFTER TWO GAMES, eidolons, a game without a god damn time limit that will make me play from the beginning of the game if I run out of time, a game I don't have to play several times to see EVERY cutscene, just not this. This is horrible in my personal opinion.
I do love the FFXIII series but from my point of view it's like those who created the series have thought "Well no one really likes FFXIII. They hated XIII-2. Let's just run this game into the ground and set it on fire with a really bad sequel that will piss off all the fans that DO like the series."

I am in absolute agreement there--doesn't suit her personality at all. There are many other female characters in the FF series where the pose probably would have seemed in-character and people would hardly have blinked, but on Lightning it's so obviously shoehorned in that it's just uncomfortable to watch. I like to see the characters I care about kept consistent, thank you.
Well, no creators are ever going to be able to please the whole fanbase, but sometimes things can go in a bad direction when they start trying to pander. Honestly I don't really care about all of the things about this game that will likely draw complaints because all I'm interested in is seeing how the conclude the trilogy and what they do with the characters... even if I don't like how they do it (in all likelihood it'll probably have plenty of loose ends), at least there'll be canon to base fanworks off of.

I can see Serah doing that sort of pose maybe. I think they were trying to do it to appeal to the male gamers :S But yeah I would rather there was consistency I can understand they want to show her more human and vulnerable side in this game but the pose was just no.
Yeah I can understand that but I just feel they have made too many changes to this game for my liking 
I would like to see how they conclude the game and make a happy ending but my biggest concern for characters is that they have so many now that they won't all get a large amount of screen time. I just really hope it won't be like XIII-2 where Fang and Vanille only got between 1-2 minutes of screen time and that was it, and you had to pay for the Sazh Katzroy DLC to see more of him :S
I am interested in seeing the fanworks once the game is out (but i'll have to be careful in avoiding the spoilers >.<)
That's what I would have liked, a chance to play the entire XIII cast along with Serah and Noel.
I wonder what's happened to Mog? Do you think he will be with Hope helping him out or something? Then again Mog appeared to have got his powers from Etro and he fainted at the end of XIII-2 so do you think he could have died D:

I can see Serah or Vanille doing it, but Lightning never came across as a fanservice character and seeing them treating her that way just makes me facepalm. Not every female character has to get shoved into the same types of stock mannerisms, especially if it's inconsistent with how she's always acted before.
I'm not happy with the lack of party members either, more because I just prefer having a large cast of characters to pick from than for gameplay reasons, but I'm glad Lightning is playable rather than some random new character or anyone else. Healing with potions outside of battle again will take some getting used to.
I'm worried about that too--I was disappointed in Fang and Vanille's extremely brief cameo in XIII-2 as well, and I hope they get more of a role in this game than just suddenly being freed in the ending. But I'm happy that Lightning and Hope will be interacting throughout the game.
Yeah, it's going to be especially tough to avoid spoilers since the overseas release is several months after the Japanese one.
I hadn't actually thought about Mog until now, but... it is possible he died, especially since he was Serah's protector and perhaps that connected him to her somehow. Otherwise I suppose Hope might have taken him in, but then you'd think he'd have gotten back to Lightning at some point since she sent him on the quest in the first place.

They did it to appeal to male gamers because they want to bring them back through sex appeal. When will Square Enix learn the way to attract gamers is through a GOOD STORY not through sex appeal because it just turns away the fans that liked the game in the first place -.-' And yes it is very inconsistent which I really dislike >.< I didn't mind the other pose where she points her sword and has that serious pose because THAT WAS GOOD. But not the other one >.< That's why I'm annoyed with the sword and shield, and all other huge changes made because it is inconsistent with the FFXIII series. Just taking away Crystariums, Parties, Paradigms, gahhhh.
What's more they have made her outfits customizable as they are the things that you use to change Schemata for your different moves and you can make her wear hardly any clothes or just look downright ridiculous :/ You can give her pink bunny ears and huge stupid hats and I think I may have seen a traffic cone as one item but hopefully it will have been removed now -.-' Lightning isn't like that. Sure she can look really pretty and elegant in a purple dress (one of her outfits shown) but she is a soldier. It's not what she's like.
Yeah I liked the variety of party members in FFXIII because each had a speciality like Sazh being a Synergist, Snow was a Sentinel, it gave you a choice as to the role you wanted to play in battle. And yeah I'll have to remember that but knowing me I will run out of gil to buy potions or just end up using them all up and sapping away loads of time from the clock so I can heal (if I can heal I'll probably get healed trying to do so like in Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep).
I heard from someone else that the boss at the Dead Dunes was confirmed to be female so I'm thinking either Lumina or possibly Fang and Vanille could be the boss battle there. I hope they do have a MUCH bigger role because I was so upset with their terrible amount of screen time
But yeah at least we know Light and Hope will interact but I watched the demo and she's like "So what now Mr. Hope Estheim?" and he says "Lightning please, just call me Hope." so she's going to be stupidly formal with him like in your comic -.-' Why can't Square Enix keep ANYTHING consistent with her personality. I don't understand why she's gone so cold since she even joked around in FFXIII-2 when she finally saw Serah in New Bodhum ???AF and she smiled at Noel and Serah when she said Mog would show the way to Academia 500AF. I can understand her being upset over Serah's death by why has she become formal for no reason?
Why are the Japanese doing this to us DX I got the ending to XIII-2 ruined for me by Google Autotype or whatever it is. I was planning on typing "Why does Serah not get an eidolon in FFXIII" because of when she breaks down and tries to break up with Snow and shut everyone out of her life. I got as far as her name and it came up "Why does Serah die at the end of FFXIII-2?" and I was like WHAT?!?! D:
And I had also seen some gif stamps of Serah dying in Noel's arms on DeviantART when I just typed in Serah Farron :S
Maybe he is like the eidolons and just lost his power when Etro died so he's with Hope (I freaking hope he is with him or I'll throw the game out the window).
Everyone assumed Lightning was dead (or at least we know that Noel did so perhaps everyone else thought so too?) so perhaps Mog didn't go back because he believed she was gone since he couldn't sense her in Valhalla and definitely wouldn't in Academia.
Or maybe if he did lose his powers he just couldn't go back to her at all.
Either way I want him alive D:

Yeah, I don't know anyone who actually buys a game because of sex appeal; it would be nice if more developers realized that they don't need to bend over backwards trying to put it in their games. I don't have as much of a problem with the outfits (although a lot of them do look ridiculous/not well-designed IMO) because the variety of clothes she's getting has a decent balance so far--we've seen a dress, a suit, and apparently she is going to get Cloud's outfit too, so it won't all be shredded cloth and miniskirts. I do think part of the fun of having such a huge variety of costumes is being able to use some out-of-character ones, even if I probably won't be using them myself. (I really enjoyed putting plushies and hairbows on my behemoths and whatnot in XIII-2, haha.)
I think it was said somewhere that Lightning would be very cold at the start of LR and warm up over the course of the game, but I don't know the source. Hopefully there'll be an explanation of her formality, yes.
Ouch, getting spoilered by Google autotype is pretty awful; I've had that happen for a couple of minor things too. At this point I just know that I basically can't look at anything on the internet for something unless I expect to be spoiled.
Or maybe Mog is stuck in some alternate timeline? No explanation yet for why Hope is a kid again, so practically anything is possible at this point.

Some are okay but others are just ridiculous and are clearly there to make her either look stupid or because they ran out of ideas and just thought "Hey let's throw that in there."
I don't like the idea of a suit, her purple ballgown dress looks really elegant and beautiful on her but really? For FIGHTING in?
I didn't mind making monsters look ridiculous and putting some items on my Lightning because they genuinely looked pretty on her (I think I gave her Lebreau's tatoo because it looked nice?) but making her have bunny ears makes me cringe >.<
It's just...ugh. After FFXIII and FFXIII-2 where she's got really really happy, friendly, and even jokes about at times they've just crushed all of that and turned her into another one of Square Enix's emo characters that are constantly serious and act depressed :/
It was horrific. I wanted to die. But since Japan get the game so early I won't be able to type any FFXIII sort of questions or stuff into google until I get my copy and finish the game.

I've actually decided I am going to do a Let's Play of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII because I've been really raging on Twitter everytime a new update for the game has come out and my friend says he wants to watch me play it so I'm going to do it kinda like PewDiePie and Tobuscus where I have a video of myself in the corner playing the game on top of the video of the game. I'm also thinking of having either a Complaint Counter which will count how many times I complain in each episode or possibly over the course of the entire game, or a Rage Bar which will go up and down throughout the episode depending on whether something has annoyed the hell out of me or I've liked something then at the end of each episode I'll show how annoyed I got whilst playing the game XD It will be like a Rage Quit video off of Achievement Hunters on YouTube.

I'm not that impressed with how the dress looks, but I really like the suit. Different people have different tastes; I'm not going to complain as long as there's decent variety.
Lightning always came across as a serious character to me, and one bearing a lot of burdens. I never thought of her as really happy and friendly, except maybe in the brief moment when she smiles at the end of XIII.

Yeah she is serious 99.9% of the time but when she was with Hope and he said "Mom?" in his sleep and she smirks and says "Not by a long shot...", or when she's with Snow on Gran Pulse and knocks him over and smiles at him saying "You are getting married right? Don't you let her down you hear me.", and of course at the end of FFXIII

Yes, it's really awesome to see the graphics develop! I don't know whether I'll be a fan of the environments yet since I tend to prefer lush natural ones like in Gran Pulse--I'm hoping there'll be a couple like that in addition to the more developed or barren areas we've already seen.

The Dead Dunes looks really boring and plain so far :/ It's just desert.
