yes, that are real ladybugs and that was real chaos!army of ladybugs is just a disaster, they run, they fly, they tickle
i had to ask my friend *schnishna to help in collecting and organizing bugs, without him i couldn't do this shot, thankies *schnishna !

ladybugs in large groups smell horrible. like a cross between burning motor oil and rotting citrus. i never could figure out why.

because when threatened they release a yellow liquid that smells rancid its a defense mechanism to ward of enemies. hence in larger groups humans can smell it better because we have such poor sense of smell lol

i knew a lot of kinds of beetles had such defense features, but i never knew ladybugs did.
chances are its blood, actually. the kinds of beetles i know of who release yellow liquid as a defense actually just make themselves bleed by bursting a blood vessel in one of their leg joints. and yes, they do have yellow blood.

yep. some types of beetles can actually kill you with their blood. there's one kind known as a blister beetle which has cyanide in its blood. enough to kill you if you were to swallow it accidentally. if you accidentally crush one and get any of the blood on you, it causes massive blistering that resembles a 2nd degree burn. that's not fatal though... just not nice.
