Description
If you were curious about my otter avatar/narrator character, here's a lore dump. I'll be in-character for this one.It all started on the seashore, long ago... 19th century, probably.Β A little mermaid, and an average sized otter pup shared a dream. Seeing the world or something.Β
So how did a small-clawed Asian river otter end up in the Caribbean? My ancestors were on board one of the legendary treasure ships in admiral Zheng He's fleet in the Ming Dynasty treasure voyages. Long story short, the ship got hijacked, and sailed to the Atlantic. The otters survived and resettled in the Caribbean, and that's how I ended up as the silly, but well-meaning mentor of Ariel.
Anyway, thanks to magical timeline shenanigans which I refuse to elaborate on, Ariel ended up in the 1980s, where she was offered a role in an animated feature film by a somewhat well known, but struggling studio, recently under new management.Β They wanted to retell the story of her life, as previously documented by the highly legitimate Danish historian Hans Christen Andersen, whose stories have since been labeled as "fairy tales" by mainstream media, for political reasons. Disney changed some bits, because the real story would have been too racy for a general audience. ...I won't elaborate on that either.
Oh right, and they replaced me with the seagull in the movie version. They said otters are not marketable, and wacky birds were popular at the time, like the crow from The Secret of NIMH, and the albatross from Disney's own Rescuers.
I'm also fair-weather friends with Tinkerbell who is the chaotic neutral 1953 version, a trusted associate and occasional valet of Jasmine, acquaintance of Ash and Pikachu, known to the Mario Bros, known to Rouge and Amy... who both find me a bit weird... I also met Ladybug, but she doesn't know I can speak. There could be like a P-chan/Akane dynamic there. That was impromptu, I did not plan it.
So the otter is basically a Little Mermaid fan character, which I use for adding a lighthearted narrative to my content.Β
