Media: Colored pencil, mechanical pencil, pen, markers on white bristol drawing paper
Time: about 10-15 hours
Size: 11x14

This is the first colored pencil/drawing that ive done in a few years. I did this piece as a practice run through to get myself back into the swing of drawing using color, pencils, etc. This is a free flowing piece as you can see

Can you find the five senses?

***UPDATE*** 08/10/2005

Thank you for taking a look at this piece, I am extremely grateful for the honor of having a Daily Deviation/Print of the day!

I have submitted 2 other pieces using this drawing. For "fifth dimension" click this [link] and for "Retrograde" (also featured as a DD 12/04) click this [link]

Wow. I love this! I'll be honest, I'm not normally a big fan of abstract art. However, I do see plenty of meaning behind this one, and I'm able to draw my own conclusions about what it is. What drew me here was the amount of color that you put into it. I'm not normally a big fan of loads 'n' loads of bright colors, either, but you've made it work beautifully here, not to mention the shading and overall sense of realism, no matter how slight. All in all, this is a unique and beautiful piece, and I'm quite happy that it got featured. Thank you for letting us all see it.

Thank you for your comment. I love all colors and my ways of expressing that are through my art. I am glad you are able to enjoy it without the use of color being too overwhelming or gaudy, I take that as a compliment because I tried to use all the colors that I had in my coloured pencils box and that's a LOT of colors! Thanks again & I am happy you enjoyed your experience with my art

Yeah it was submitted last year in August. One year later I get a DD how cool is that!? I was especially surprised considering I don't log into DA as often anymore ever since they banned me from going to it at work

"

The frame you bought or the black frame it comes with?

this is eXcellent Michelle! organically explosive! and breakin' those borders releases ones thoughts and imagniation to the infinite in my op-onion, for both its creator and its viewer, who are typically both restricted and protected by its confines. good job with that media also! when i mess with colored pencil the end result looks like it deserves a gold star from my 2nd grade teacher before nap-time.

i love all this coloured pencil drawings. your style is quite similar to mine in places but you seem to be much more prolific. you may have answered this before, but where do you get the ideas for these pieces/ what is you design/execution process? dan

artisticalshell In reply to danpurcell [2005-02-21 06:57:37 +0000 UTC]

I started doing these colorful surrealistic pieces because of many reasons. I used to draw very precise and try to draw exactly what I see...so i wanted to try something different for a change - to draw without using any photo references whatever came to mind. also i wanted to draw using different colors, not discriminating any and just use as much color as possible. i really dont' have a specific process to be honest. i think something up, sometimes i draw it sometimes i dont. sometimes its planned out sometimes its spontaneous. I have dipped in so many different medias and styles of creating art that i havent settled comfortably into one process yet...
check out [link] he was very inspirational to me and i actually got so inspired that i started drawing in colored pencils last year after visiting his gallery let me know what you think
