Description
Yay! I made it! After several requests from friends, I made an eye tutorial! 8D You will have a behind-the-scenes look at how I make my eyes so shiny and animu-like. And since I only used a mouse to do this, anyone can do it! All you need is Photoshop 7.0 and a little variety. ^___^Related content

you can try it with GIMP
it's free and i think it also utilizes the burn and dodge tool

GIMP is an art program different from photoshop, but it should utilize the same tools/functions.
you can search it on google and download from there.

i've never used GIMP before so i don't know its details ; you can probably find out more about it by googling and reading GIMP tutorials

if you download youll find out ^^
dun worry if you dun like the program you can always uninstall it. but you could probly do this with paont just instead of the dodge and burn tool just use lighter and darker colors
dodge means lighten and burn means darken
hope i helped somewhat

So it would help me with shading and stuff?
But would it still have the pixel quality of Paint?

I acctually used Sumo Painter when I tried to do an eye like that XD It did turn out pretty good in Sumo Painter, so you can use Sumo Painter too, but instead of the burn tool, I used the Smudge tool, which worked for me ^^

Really nice eye tutorial. But I have one question. How you got that burn tool burn so black when I try it it didn't burn it even close to black. It was midtones and 50% exposure. Did I do something wrong? o_O
π: 0 β©: 1
ascherie In reply to JJDrakon [2009-05-30 20:45:49 +0000 UTC]
set the exposure a bit higher (exposure = intensity)
it should turn black by then

JJDrakon In reply to ascherie [2009-05-30 21:22:33 +0000 UTC]
Okay thanks. I'll try this.

giblelover2 In reply to JJDrakon [2009-06-29 01:28:06 +0000 UTC]
um i think ur using a color that just mmakes the color more intense rght? not darker?
you could change the color to something darker. thats what i did. i wanted vibrant light green eyes and the color would only
get greener. then i darkened it to a more teal kind of green and it worked
hop i helped you with my little bit of smarticles

if it supports the burn and dodge tool, then yes, you can probably use the tutorial for that program, too.

Very nicely done! I like the extra sweeps you did to give it a true "iris" look.
I'm also pretty sure it says "bum", not "burn tool" in that second paragraph, but it may just be a trick of the eye.
