A heavy bout of rain lashed against the town of Onset. High winds rattled windows as a distant rumble of thunder sounded from just beyond the trees residents called home. There was a storm brewing and it didn’t look to be ending anytime soon.

Millie couldn’t sleep as she found herself staring holes into the bunk above hers, trying desperately to keep her mind occupied. She had counted every toy in the room; found every single animal shaped splodge in the camouflage print of her bunkmate’s blanket; even the tried-and-true method of counting peebs had failed her.
It was just too loud, the rain, the wind, all of it. She just wanted it to go away... To leave her in peace to sleep. Even though she knew her roommates were asleep nearby, she still felt loneliness setting in. There was nobody to talk to, of course. They were all able to drift off so easily... some even commented on how soothing the rain was to listen to before leaving her behind in reality.
It didn’t help that room too bright, either. A few of her roommates had requested the light be left lit to soothe their fears. Millie had thought to snuff the flame in light of them being fast asleep at this point but fears of her own had set in each and every time she had made an advance towards it. She didn’t want to burn herself, especially not in the middle of the night. The candle would eventually burn itself out anyway... she just had to be patient.

After a while, Millie shuffled out of bed and padded quietly across the room, ultimately ending up on the little ledge in front of the window, her mind drifting to other things. She had, had a good day today. Playing outside, collecting shells, showing her newfound treasures to her new friend, Archie.
Archie... she wondered what he was doing. Sleeping, no doubt, but a person his size could never fit into a house. If anything, Archie was a house! Or at least he had one built on his back... Home to that grumpy old man who seemed pretty intent of shooing her away if she stayed to talk to Archie too long... Millie didn’t mind though. Sometimes, even if she didn’t mean it, Archie would get a little too excited when he saw her coming and that no doubt shook up the man’s house.
‘I’d probably be a big ol’ grumpy-butt too if I had my house shaken up.‘ she thought to herself, giggling slightly. Though she still hadn’t answered her question. Where did Archie sleep? Was he safe and cozy? Probably not... Millie’s ears drooped at the thought of her friend getting soaked in this horrible, terrible, awful weather. She had to help him, it’s what friends do... but how?
She thought long and hard to herself... What did Spice always tell them to wear when it was raining? A hat... and boots! Yes, she would get Archie a nice hat and boots to keep him dry!

It took her a few minutes to gather all the items she needed, a lovely matching set of four bright yellow boots and hat, along with several other mismatched pairs of boots and a big bag to carry them in. Returning to the window ledge, she took a moment to brace herself before gently nudging open the window and slipping out of the hole. Almost instantaneously, she was blasted back by the howling gale-force winds that relentlessly pelted freezing cold rain into her face as she ran towards the spot where she last saw the giant hare.

By the time she reached the forest clearing, her fluffy ears and tail were thoroughly drenched. Her tiny body shivering violently as it tried desperately to regain any semblance of warmth. At least he was still there. A mountainous lump of green fur lay curled before her, it too shivering, if only slightly. “Hey, Archie!” Millie called, spitting her bag onto the floor, spilling its contents into the  swampy mixture of mud and grass underfoot. It would be clear to anyone who saw them that these clothes were clearly designed for a creature much smaller than the Marche Hare, however, that wasn’t going to stop Millie from trying.
“I got you some rain clothes!” the young goumbee shouted, triumphantly holding up one of the boots, “Spice says that they keep you dry when it rains!” The hare merely stared at the tiny creature, curiously, not even doing so much as raise his head. She quickly got to work, pulling a tiny boot onto each of his claws and swiftly scrambling up his side and onto his head to place the hat upon his head.
She smiled at her handiwork, before saying, “There! You should be feeling all nice and dry again soon!”
