Description "LEGACY ~ THE HORUS FACTOR" by Michael C. Turner

Acrylic on stretched canvas using traditional bristle brush techniques ~ 48"X48"

An Earth-like planet and lunar companion transit an active nebula with a "jetting" black hole. The bi-polar jetting effect is caused by the ionization of gases entering the event horizon, the point of no return. The jets are believed to be one of the primary methods for redistributing matter and energy in the universe. A black hole is a region of space in which the gravitational field is so powerful that nothing, not even visible light can escape its pull after having fallen past its event horizon. The term derives from the fact that the absorbsion of visible light renders the hole's interior invisible, and indistinguishable from the black space around it. Despite its interior being invisible, a black hole may reveal its presence through an interaction with matter that lies in orbit outside its event horizon or the jetting effect caused by ionized gases.

With a bit of imagination you can see an "abstract" image of the Egyptian Eye of Horus (the falcon god) as well as a falcon with wings outstretched in the nebula. It's a bit like making concrete images out of clouds . . . a mental illusion if you please. This painting is from a privately commissioned work and one of my archaeoastronomy pieces.

("Legacy - The Horus Factor") is #9 / 1999 in my Christmas In The Stars card series.)
