Description
October 5, 1813; Near Moraviantown, Upper CanadaMy dear Aveza,
I hope I'm not writing this at a bad time, but we desperately need your help in Ontario. William Henry Harrison and his Templar dogs have been marching west, and their very presence is threatening the Native people living on these lands. I've been working with that poor excuse of a man, Henry Procter, in hopes of warding the Americans off. But he and his men are weak and selfish. I have good reason to believe that they'd abandon us in a heartbeat just to save their own hides. And so I ask for your and Arnold’s assistance yet again. I need you, my friends, to travel to Moraviantown as fast as you can. We cannot allow for the Templars to take more land from the Natives who deserve to live upon it. They've already lost so much in this long, long fight. The Assassins don't have the same strength to fight off the invaders as we used to. But we can't give up. Our goal is for everyone, everyone, to be free from tyranny, and I won't stop until that goal is achieved. So I beg of you, my friends, come aid us in our time of need. Thank you.
Your friend, and brother,
Tecumseh
------------
Aveza and Arnold galloped straight to Upper Canada the second they got the message. They weren't going to let their friend go into a fight alone. Not after the last time they met.
By the time they made it to Moraviantown, things already looked bad. The British were scattered, the Natives were outgunned, and the Americans were making their march unhalted. Aveza and Arnold started looking for Tecumseh, but Tecumseh found them first.
“Thank the Great Spirit you've come,” he said, out of breath from fighting.
“What's the situation?” asked Aveza worriedly.
“That dog Harrison is crushing our men! And that spineless Procter keeps trying to retreat! We can't let him, my friends, the Natives will surely lose if the Americans are allowed to continue.”
Aveza and Arnold nodded. Tecumseh motioned for them to follow, which they did. The three Assassins moved through a light swamp to reach their location. Bullets whizzed overhead as both sides tried to unleash hell on each other. The Assassins had to duck and dive behind the trees to avoid getting hit with musket balls and tomahawks.
Eventually, they came out of the swampy area and came out on the British side of the battle. Tecumseh led them through the soldiers, looking around furiously for Procter. Many of the men were already running away.
They eventually found Procter, who was putting his saddlebags onto his horse before hopping on.
“Fall back, men!” he called. “Fall back!”
Before he could ride away, Tecumseh stormed up to him.
“What the hell are you doing?” he shouted at him. “We can't retreat! We must stand our ground! We must defend my people's lands!”
“Quite honestly, Tecumseh, our lives are more important right now than the wellbeing of your men,” said Procter coldly, arrogantly. Tecumseh’s face turned bright red with fury.
“How dare you!” he shouted. “I am tired of your complete disregard for my people! We deserve as much as you do, as all men do! But you're too arrogant to see it! We put our faith in you, but clearly that faith was misguided! You, Procter, are no better than the monsters we fight! Go! We don't want your arrogance corrupting us. But if you intend to flee like the cowards you are, than give my people your guns so that we can fight properly.”
But all Procter did was stare maliciously at Tecumseh. “Goodbye, Tecumseh,” he said coldly. With that, he reared his horse and retreated with the rest of his men. The three Assassins watched them go with dropped jaws.
“Oh God…” said Aveza.
Tecumseh grit his teeth and punched the nearest tree in rage.
Arnold turned and looked across the battlefield with his spyglass. He passed it to Aveza.
“They're advancing fast,” he said, swearing under his breath.
“I can see Harrison,” said Aveza. “He's mixed in with his troops. Oh God, our men aren't holding up well.”
Tecumseh came up to their sides and scanned the scene. “Harrison,” he growled. “That man has been a thorn in our sides for too long! We have to end this now before he hurts our people even further.”
The other two nodded.
“What do we do?” asked Aveza. “What's our plan?”
Tecumseh looked at her. He reached into his bag and pulled something out of it. He placed it firmly in her hand. Aveza looked at it. It was a short wooden pole with a metal blade at the end of it. And on the other end was a metal loop with a long rope tied to it. Tecumseh grabbed a few more, and gave them to both his friends.
“Take these,” he said. “They'll be extremely helpful in this fight.”
“What are these?” asked Aveza.
“Rope darts,” explained Arnold. “A deadly weapon favored by our brothers in China. They're highly valuable in terrains like this battlefield.”
“How do they work?”
Before Arnold could answer, the Americans fired a cannon. The roar of the impact echoed through the air. The screams of the dying echoed as well.
“Come on,” said Arnold, urging his friends to quickly follow. “I'll show you.”
The three rushed back into the swampy part of the forest to join the Natives in their fight against Harrison’s merciless soldiers. Tecumseh split off from the group to go help his men. He started gathering up the remaining guns and passed them to the Natives.
Meanwhile, Arnold led Aveza up into the branches of the trees. They leapt through the canopy until they found themselves above a group of isolated American soldiers. They hadn't noticed the hooded Assassins above them yet. Arnold held up a finger to his lips to signal for Aveza to be quiet. She nodded. He motioned for her to move to a different branch, which she did. She looked across at her friend, who motioned for her to watch.
He grabbed one of his rope darts, spun it around a few times to test its weight, and then, with lighting speed, flung the dart at the soldier below him. The metal pierced the soldier's neck, sticking itself in his flesh. Then, Arnold leapt down backwards from the branch, sending the now dead soldier soaring upwards to hang on the rope.
The other enemies gasped at the sight and speed of the attack, giving Aveza the advantage needed to copy Arnold’s moves and end another soldier's life.
Before the other enemies could wrap their heads around the surprise attack, the Assassins cut them down.
“Nice work,” said Arnold.
“Thank you,” said Aveza.
Suddenly, more bullets soared overhead. The Assassins ducked for cover. A lone soldier spotted them and charged at them with his musket. But before he could even get close, Arnold grabbed another rope dart and threw it sharply at him. The dart hit the man's chest, and he fell. The Assassins kept moving. Aveza got the chance to pull off the same trick a couple of times. It was a decent weapon for long-range combat, but the Americans kept closing in tighter on the Natives.
Pretty soon, the Americans had begun to march through the Native side of the battlefield, and hell broke loose. Aveza and Arnold bumped into Tecumseh again. All three stood back-to-back, weapons raised, ready to fight.
“Take a shot at Harrison if you can,” said Tecumseh. “If we can kill him, we might just have a chance of winning this fight.”
“Got it,” said the other two. Enemies charged in their direction. The Assassins raised their blades high, and charged back.
Aveza leapt up onto the nearest soldier, kicking him in the face and knocking him unconscious. She spun around the second she landed to face the next enemy. The soldier charged at her with his sword, but she dodged the blow. The man stumbled off balance, giving Aveza the chance to kill him with her hidden blade. She spun herself over the falling body and used her momentum to throw herself at the next enemy, who was caught off guard by her speed. She stabbed his neck and grabbed the musket out of his hands. When the next soldier came at her, she used the gun's bayonet to end his life as well.
Meanwhile, Arnold was fighting just as hard. A soldier rushed at him with his sword. Arnold blocked the blow, stabbed the man with his hidden blade, and took his sword just in time to use it to block another blow. Arnold countered the soldier's attack, threw the man off balance, and ran him through with the blade.
Another soldier charged at Tecumseh. The enemy reared his musket back and swung it hard at Tecumseh’s head. Tecumseh ducked before he could get hit though, and he snapped his enemy's neck when he got the chance. Another soldier surprised him and grabbed him from behind. Yet another enemy raised his sword in hopes of stabbing Tecumseh. Tecumseh broke free just in time however, and ducked beneath the blow. The soldier's sword accidentally hit the other enemy in the shoulder, causing him to fall. Tecumseh used his enemy's surprise to knock him out.
Suddenly, a familiar voice shouted orders at the Americans.
“Carry on men!” shouted Harrison not to far away. He had just finished mercilessly slicing open a Native’s skull. “Carry on! We've almost won! Cut these savages down like the animals they are! Prove to them that we are truly superior!”
Tecumseh swelled up with rage. He flicked out his hidden blades and began to fight his way through to Harrison.
Meanwhile, Aveza kept fighting. The three Assassins had become separated from each other, but that just made them fight harder. Another soldier charged at Aveza with a bayonet. Aveza quickly spun out of the way and stabbed the man's neck. Another enemy tried to swing his sword at her from behind, but she dodged the blow. As the soldier swung and missed, Aveza grabbed the man's hands and forced them to drive his own stomach. The man fell with a yell. Before the next soldier could even swing his sword, Aveza punched him in the temple, and then knocked him out with a punch to the nose.
Four more soldiers stood in front of her. She looked into their eyes from under her hood. They were scared. Good. She stood tall, outstretched her hands, and both her hidden blades sprang out. The soldiers were dead in a matter of seconds.
But suddenly, as she pulled her blade out of her enemy's chest, there seemed to be some sort of shift in the atmosphere. Nothing obvious, just a feeling that something was very, very wrong. There seemed to almost be a lull in the battle, like time was somehow slightly slowed in Aveza's mind. She looked all around. What was setting off this feeling in her? What demanded her focus so badly that her senses slowed? Suddenly, her eyes instinctively went to Tecumseh, who had managed to get a clear path to Harrison. His hidden blades were barred as he charged at the Templar. He was only a few yards away.
And then Harrison saw him, and drew his pistol.
Aveza's eyes widened in horror. No…, she thought. But her nightmares became reality. Harrison saw the open shot he had. He aimed his gun high, and pulled the trigger. The bullet came flaming out of the gun, soared across the field, and pierced Tecumseh’s heart.
Tecumseh’s eyes widened as the ball went straight through him, leaving a bleeding hole behind in his chest and back.
Aveza choked. The sounds of battle were completely tuned out for her. Harrison gave a malicious smile, drew his other pistol, and fired again. The shot hit Tecumseh again. Blood fountained out of his chest as the bullet went through. He stared in pained horror as he dropped to his knees.
“NO!” Aveza shouted. She couldn't believe it. Harrison laughed victoriously and waved his pistols in the air as if to mock Aveza's bleeding friend.
Aveza didn't think. She let her body carry her past the soldiers in a fit of rage and tears. She cut a path through to Tecumseh, who had fallen onto his side in the bloody grass. She dropped down beside him and frantically tried to hold his head up.
“No! No! Stay with me, Tecumseh! Please!”
Tecumseh started choking on his blood. He painfully looked up at his friend with dying eyes. He used all his strength to weakly grab her shaking arm.
“Carry on the fight… Aveza…” he moaned. “Protect our people… stop the Templars…”
“No no no no! You're going to be fine! Please God no!”
She started crying uncontrollably. Tecumseh looked at her. He used up the last of his strength to give a weak smile to her. “Be strong… my friend…” he said softly to her. He let out one final breath of air, closed his eyes, and drifted off to the next world. Aveza just stared, speechless and in tears.
“No…” she said. She tried to shake him as if to wake him. Her own hands started shaking horribly.
“NO!” she shouted.
Suddenly, she heard Harrison laughing maliciously not far away. “You Assassins never learn do you?” he mocked. “We always come out on top, you savages!”
Aveza's sadness transformed into pure rage. She grabbed her tomahawk, spun around, and sprinted at Harrison with a yell. She raised her blade to strike, but Harrison dodged her blow and hit her head hard with the handle of his pistol. Aveza went spinning to the ground. She quickly got back up and tried again, but Harrison used her blind fury against her. He quickly drew his sword and slashed her across the chest. She stumbled backwards. Harrison slashed again. And again. Until Aveza was beginning to get dizzy from blood loss. She couldn't keep her balance. She tried another weak swing at Harrison, but she missed, and Harrison knocked her to the ground by hitting her hard with his sword handle.
Aveza laid on the ground, to weak to get back up. She looked up through a bloodied and tear-filled gaze to see Harrison standing above her, grinning ear-to-ear. His sword shined in the sun.
“Two Assassins in one day,” he said. “My my. How lucky am I?”
Aveza watched as he raised his sword high to deliver the killing blow. “Goodnight, Assassin!” he laughed.
He was about to kill her, but suddenly, a voice shouted out, “NO!” before he could. Aveza's vision started going black, but she still managed to see Arnold charge at Harrison and tackle him. “Get away from her!” he shouted. He managed to punch Harrison a few times before he was knocked away. The two men drew their swords and swung hard at each other. Aveza watched, but her vision was fading. Her entire body throbbed in agony. She struggled for breath.
She saw Arnold hit Harrison hard with his sword handle, stunning the man and sending him spinning. Arnold used his time to rush back to Aveza. Everything was going black. The sounds of the world started fading as well.
“Aveza!” she barely heard Arnold shout. “Aveza! Oh God! Don't worry! We're going to get you out of here. Just please stay with me!”
Arnold’s face and voice were the last things Aveza saw and heard before she completely lost consciousness. Everything was just a silent, black void to her.
”Oh my God! Her vital signs are going nuts!”
“She's spasming, Ruby!”
“I can see that, Ben!”
“Get her out of there!”
“What do you think I'm trying to do?”
“Ava!”
