Description Saulius is one of those people who have only just barely made it into the historical record by snagging a role in someone else's more famous story. His father was a Scythian chieftain named Gnurus, who ruled a tribe situated near the Greek colony of Pontic Olbia, north of the Black Sea. Saulius's brother was the much more famous Anacharsis, who opted to leave his homeland for the more "civilized" world of ancient Greece. Saulius thus inherited the throne and got down to real business while his brother was away dicking about with jabbermouthed Athenians getting up to lame shit like "self exploration" and "philosophical conversation". Eventually, Anacharsis returned, and with a new mission no less! He was now determined to indoctrinate his people into the cult of the mother goddess Cybele, to which the hyper masculine warrior society of the Scythians responded as they were to do: with violence. It is said that Saulius himself shot Anacharsis in the back with multiple arrows, killing him while he prayed to his new goddess. Herodotus reports that the Spartans believe Anacharsis actually escaped and sought refuge in their city but uh… if your aim is to escape a place like Scythia then Sparta is frankly the wrong way around the globe for you. Even Herodotus indicates that he thinks this is more like today's Elvis-is-alive conspiracies, seeing a random dude who kinda looks like the celebrity Anacharsis on a street corner and going "I knew it!"

Design notes, Saulius was a minor antagonist in the D&D game I ran. He pretty much just showed up as an extra obstacle for my party, trying to negotiate the return of his brother from Tomyris's prison so that he could execute him himself. He wasn't really meant to be a major character and indeed he ended up just being a one off after the party escaped into Iran with Darius the Great. So, I just sort of designed him as a generic Scythian chieftain, grizzled and out to satiate his desire for fratricide, as you do. I'm not entirely happy with the design itself, but for its purpose, I think it's acceptable. I'd certainly put in a little more effort and clean up the composition more if I end up drawing more prominent Scythians. Sorry dude, your brother was just more famous than you in the end. But hey, even though I went with the Elvis conspiracy route for my D&D game, I'm fairly confident you absolutely killed him in real life, so… congrats I guess?
