Velvet Layne crashed when she was in college, dashing her hopes of playing in the WNBA. With her glistening flesh and ripped physique, people tend to get the impression she has super-strength and "diamond" flesh. That's not quite true. Velvet has always been a fitness fanatic and athlete. Along with playing Basketball and Volleyball all through school, she also was an amateur bodybuilder. That fanatical devotion to fitness hasn't faded since her Crash.

Now, as well as being a fitness fanatic, she is a determined advocate for the less fortunate, serving with the Peace Corps in Africa and Asia, as well as several organizations that serve disadvantaged youth in US cities. She is also quite active in her church. Most days, she hardly gives her status as a Gatecrasher a second thought, even if it's obvious simply by looking at her.

Velvet is an incredibly self-possessed and confident young lady and her former teammates on the LSU women's basketball team bestowed on her a Crasher codename reflective of those traits; Swagger. That codename gives no hint as to her powers, which are a unique and useful set of abilities. Velvet is a mass shifter, able to increase or decrease her own mass and density with a thought. She can apply those same abilities to anything she touches. Casual observers often mistake her power for super strength, but it is so much more versatile.

Generally speaking Swagger is not a fan of violence, but she suffers no great pangs of conscience if she is forced to use her abilities that way.
