It was the first time in a long while since Renna had shown any foals at competition, but Dashkaana showed a certain grace and calmness that Sky Deadly never seemed to have learned at that young of an age. And Ada had been such a wonderful mother.
It was endearing just how much Ada cared for her baby. As Renna was brushing the mare down before the showing, Ada made sure to give Dashka a thorough grooming herself by licking the foal all over, from neck to belly.
Renna laughed and pushed the mare’s head away. “You’re just going to give her a cow lick. You know that’s not very sightly.”
Ada flicked her ears back , giving Renna a long side eye, but couldn’t resist licking her lips as Renna finished with the grooming.
She fitted the halter over Ada. Dashka still wasn’t halter broken, but still trotted neatly next to her mothers side as they were led out into the ring.
Renna trotted them around for a bit by hand, then let Ada and Dashka loose, shaking a rattle to prompt them to keep moving on their own. Dashka was the perfect model, never once wavering from her mothers side or speeding off and having a buck as some foals tend to do.
Just as Renna’s time was up and was walking up to catch the pair, Ada made a point to stop and stare at the crowd, nudging her foal to face different directions as if to say “look at my baby!”
