Description
It was a cold night. I could barely feel my feet as I walked slowly through the wet slush of the recently fallen snow. The desolate energy of this night was enhanced by the moonless sky full of inky darkness. A frigid wind greeted me as I turned toward the north, its raw force stinging my eyes into temporary blindness. If I didn't actually feel the numbness as it consumed by my moving body, I'd question rather I was amidst a dream or possibly even no longer alive. I thought back to what she had said earlier, and thinking that she could manifest this caused a shiver within that made the coldness I was in seem sweltering in comparison. I still remembered the last thing she said, "You will soon know the extent to which I will go to bring them here, to turn this world into a frozen abyss, a wasteland. I will create Kadath on earth." I always thought that she had power, unspeakable and certainly of a malignant kind, but she was so unrepentantly grandiose that I always thought part of what she said was as much fiction as it was fact. She was ruthless, mean, evil but with a certain charm that created an illusion of harmlessness. I mean, I respected her but I didn't really take it all seriously, but I should've. It all started a few years ago when were on a trip to some obscure country investigating its esoteric lore.It matters little as to what I am about to say or how I am supposed to say it. My life changed upon that day, never again to be the same. If I approached someone in the waking world with my dream journeys they not only see me as mad but also beyond a sanity which rational minds could comprehend. The dangers of the world are small compared to the vast malignancy of the vast seas of space and time. If we could touch the vault within which holds our deepest fears, unlocking the psyche from its trapped state only then could they comprehend anything of which I am about to write.
The old house stood upon the tip of a high hill which extended across the western horizon. No one had dared visit this place since years earlier when the event which scarred my life occurred. She never should have opened that door...
