Description
A songbird perched away up highOn a building that almost touched the sky.
He sang a song that was light and sweet
And twittered his innocent “tweet, tweet, tweet.”
Soon something above him blocked the light
He ceased his song. He was filled with fright.
His song was replaced with a deafening roar.
The calm of the morning was no more.
He jumped from his perch and flew away.
It was to dangerous to stay.
He flapped and flapped his wings in fear
A terrible crash came at his rear.
When he came to a new safe place to sit,
He looked back at the scene, horrified at it.
A plane had crashed into the tower,
And flame erupted like a giant flower.
He shrieked a note that was frantic and shrill
The songbird was petrified and sat still.
The people ran and cried and screamed.
The city had gone to hell it seemed.
After what seemed like forever, he returned to his nest.
He needed a nice safe place to rest.
He whistled a tune that was mournful and sad
Reflecting the tragic day he’d had.
As the days went by, the bird did see
The most wonderful site that ever could be.
A nation who was once divided
Came together to stand united.
He heard all the people say,
“We’ll never forget what happened that day.
We’ll fight to defend our freedom and will
And to show we are a strong nation still.”
The bird sang a song that was brave and bold.
And this is the story that he told
To the next generation or birds to be born.
That there is a time to be sad and to mourn.
But then comes a time to gather your might
And band together to stand and fight
