Halloween is nearly upon us; only one week away from the spookiest night of the year! I’m all burnt out from creating all these Cemeterra High drawings (I literally dedicate half the summer working on them), but I think I have enough time to introduce one more character. Since we already have a Frankenstein monster character, who is he without an Igor? Everyone, this is Iggy!!!

Description/ Personality:
Intelligent, yet rather eccentric, the hunchback boy Iggy is among the most brilliant top students at Cemeterra High (only slightly trumping Valerie). As an aspiring mad scientist, Iggy has a strong knack for creating wild inventions. But if you were to ask him, his greatest invention would have to be his big brother, Tank!

Iggy is actually a descendant of the original Igor that served Dr. Frankenstein. Much like his ancestor, Iggy has a fascination for mad science, but the rest of his family was not so approving of it. Similar to werewolves, creatures like hunchbacks are very lowly ranked in the monster world, often used for manuel/slave labor, specifically mining and harvesting “Monster Muck”, a substance found miles beneath Cemeterra, which the inhabitants use for numerous things, like home decor, picture frames, cement, etc. It was Iggy’s dreams and desire to become more than just a lowly hunchback that caused him to be abandoned by his close-minded family.

Iggy took up residence in Karloff’s Castle, where he tried to evade his loneliness by puttering around with his experiments, until he used Dr. Frankenstein’s secret formula for reanimation, passed down by his great-great-grandfather Igor, to create Tank, to take on the role of his new brother, giving him companionship and to fend off anyone who tries to bring harm to them. Though he originally meant to give an advanced brain to match his own, Iggy messed up and instead gave Tank the brain of an athlete, but at least he was able to make him nicer than a stereotypical jock. It’s this act of abandonment and rejection by his old family that caused Iggy to develop a fear of failure and isolation. As a result, he doesn’t take very kindly to his inventions not functioning how they’re supposed to, and can let discouragement cloud his mind. But though the encouragement of his new friends, like Jake, Gordon, Valerie, and Rhaps, he gradually learns to accept his failures as much as his successes (“with quiet dignity and grace”).

Despite usually being a nice, humble little nerd, Iggy has a bit of a maniacal, sadistic side, often getting kick out of things that would be considered malicious or destructive, but really, he is more interested in anarchy and chaos, rather than true evilness. Iggy is also at times the target of affection for Rhaps the mummy. Since Rhaps has trouble communicating with other students because he can’t talk, Iggy is smart enough to translate his ancient Egyptian poses and sign languages. As a result, the two of them often hang around one another, with Iggy as Rhaps’ translator. But it was Iggy being the only one who truly understands him that caused Rhaps’ crush on him to eventually bloom. The two of them already make a great pair; with Iggy’s mastery of electronics and Rhaps’ killer dances, they can both create the most MONSTROUS of parties and raves!
