I love swapping outfits on characters (and in this case, skateboards are also part of the trade). Now all I can imagine is Jay wanting to catch fish and be around water in general, and esp liking brooks. Fly, I can only imagine he would be into the kind of music Jay likes, so to me that fits nicely if he took on the musical aspect Jay has. He did sing very briefly in the movie too.
